After about 4 years I'm finally to the point to crank my 74. It has a 351 windsor and it ran good when I took it out. I did not remove the distributor basically just cleaned it up added new cap, rotor , plugs, and wires . Now it will not stay running spits and sputters for about 5 or so seconds then dies. It has the Duration spark ignition. If anyone has an idea would be glad to hear it.

I suspect you have a gummed up carburetor, and your not getting proper fuel delivery.....but check the firing order again, just to be on the safe side, good luck

Hi, X2 on the carb, could be a sticky float.
Make sure all the fuel lines and hose clamps are good, and you have plenty of fresh gas. You can remove the rubber fuel line at the carb and crank the engine for a few seconds while you point the fuel line into a coffee can. The fuel pump should fill the coffee can in about 10 or 15 seconds.
After you are sure you are getting good fuel delivery you can gently tap the carb near the fuel inlet because gentle tapping can get the float to move and let the fuel bowl fill.
I would also recheck the firing order because it is too easy to cross a couple of wires.
Good luck

Be sure you are using the correct firing order.
Two for sbf's.

But you prolly are gummed up; with today's fuel it can be gummy in just a month or so,
