I have 38" gumbo mudders for my '77. It is stock height with worn out springs. Anybody have suggestions on what size lift looks or works best with these tires. It has cut outs with flares.

Alot of guys here run 38 to 44"s so im sure someone will chime in.

The 38"s will most likey rub under flex no matter waht you do.. just fyi

5.5" suspension or 3.5" suspension w/ a few inches of body lift and a Sawzall until they fit.

I have 3" suspension, and 3" body with my 38.5's right now, and the plan calls for pulling out the body lift, so I'll be running 38.5 TSL/SX's with a 3" suspension lift. Of course my bronco isn't quite stock in appearance... go here for pics of my bronco

BTW, I ran this same setup before I narrowed the body too, and the contact point on the fronts (with no inner fenders) is the toeboards on both sides, I'm moving the axle ahead a couple inches to solve this. In the back I hit the front and back of the stock wheelwells, the back is the worst interference, you need to stretch the rear wheelwells at least 4" to make the tires work well with flex and a low suspension height/body height... Even with the interference it'll still ramp an 1100 on a 30 degree ramp with this combo...

thanks 74 explorer, It'll look even better once I finish out the bodyworking (some dents to work out of it), and give it a bath in granite zolatone, with red lemans stripes up the grill, over the hood and windshield, and down the tailgate, with matching red EB350 lower body stripes...

I would go with a 5.5" if you dont want to cut the fenders much, or 3.5 if you dont mind. Im running 37s with the 3.5 and it works well, plus it keeps the center of gravity low which is very important when off roading.

hell I rubbed all lover with my 33's and a 3.5 sus and a 1.5" body! I will be running 38.5"s with 5.5 sus and 1.5 body. My 36's rub all over the rear wheel well but I'll just make sure they don't get cut at by the tub when I go to 38.5" sx's
if you have a few extra bucks id get a set of guerilla warflares. ive got them on my 73 bronco with no lift and was running 35s. i mounted them at the body line as high as i could get them. i pulled out the fuel filler necks and cut out all the inner fenderwell that hung out. i rubbed more on the inner part of the body more than any outside panels. im sure with a 3.5 lift and the bigger flares you could get them in. these flares are HUGE!

ya, with my 37s i didnt have to trim the outer fenders at all, the tires just tuck inside of them when it flexes. But the inside is where i had problems, i just cut the wells out all around and now im building new ones for the rear. Its not a big deal really.

He forgot one thing, you may want to include 1 ton running gear in the picture, as you are going to be snapping U-joints and axle shafts left and right with any throttle usage.

I would have to disagree, a 38 isnt gonna rub no matter what you do, my tires dont rub at all and they are only an inch or so smaller. Its all about not being scared to cut sheet metal, if you arnt then you can fit whatever you want to with minimal lift.

I have a 3 1/2 wh lift in the front but apted for the 4 1/2 rear springs to get the back a little further out of the way. I also have a 2'' body lift. I had to cut only a little metal from the back side of the fenders, and the front of the quarter panels. The gorilla warflares are the best for this application because they almost hide all traces of me cutting. and they take the abuse of the tire cumming into contact every now and then.
