3D printed Heater box replacement

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a 3D-printed replacement for the heater box. My original is cracked and brittle, so I’m planning to model a 2–3-piece replacement that mounts to the original metal frame.

I figure the metal frame is probably still usable on most trucks, and with new replacement heater boxes running around $310, this could be a more affordable option.

My plan is to model it directly from an original so it’s essentially an exact replacement, with only a few changes to allow it to be printed in multiple pieces and easily assembled. It would reuse the factory blower motor and mounting hardware as much as possible.

For material, I’m looking at either a low-moisture-absorbing nylon or ASA, likely reinforced with fiberglass or carbon fiber. ASA is also UV- and heat-resistant, so it should hold up well in an automotive interior.

I’m an engineering student and thought this could be a fun project while also putting my 3D printer to work making a little extra pocket change. Before I spend the time modeling everything, I wanted to see if there would be any interest in something like this.

That’s a great idea. There are a few of us that have 3d printers and would probably buy your files to print our own.

I was also considering replacing the air boxes under the hood down the road. Also, what price point would you be interested in for the files? It would take some effort to get everything working and ready for sale.
