Hi,

Is there an easy way to identify a 4 turn from a 6 turn power steering box without opening it up.

Aside from any part numbers that might be cast into the housing (although it's the same housing for both, so there might not be a difference there?) you can simply turn the input shaft and count the turns until it stops.

This can be done by hand pretty easily on a free-spinning box, but would require some help like pliers for a tighter box.
But it is that simple. Can be done whether it's in the vehicle or out.

Count while turning the input shaft. Doesn't get much easier than that ;)

I had a seized up box once that I had no way of determining if it was four or six turn without decoding the part number or taking it apart. If yours doesn't turn freely, it will be more difficult to ascertain.
