4bt for sale today read..

OK I'M pissed so I'll tell all you guy that mignt even want a 4 bt ..now the action is on will go thru friday about 12:00 dinner...I hate getting out bid by the damn computor ...that just doesn't seem fair to me ...I'm and old country and have bought plenty at auction but I dont know how to get it to out bid them ...
not long back on E-BAY I got a confirmed bit at 3 sec before it was over and they still gave it to the other guy.......
SO Down to the meat of my story ....go to dovebid.com 05-17-07 and 05-18-07 there is an action for truck trailers step van (4bt) and many others items ...there are a lot in MO. 1000.00 BID and in FL ...THERE ARE a lot and a lot of good Clark fork lift 1000.00 ...But in old Texas ..only 2 (4bt). I was going to bit on both hoping to get both then parts for the motor and storage ..clean out the wife garage for once ...damn I thought I had a plan ...

Any one know how to win ...with out just spiling the cash bucket ...

I lost a gorgeous 67 Mustang fastback in the last 8 seconds on a bidding war on eBay.

I was told after the fact I should have 3-4 web pages opened up bidding on the same thing if you want to get it.

It was really heart breaking to not get the stang.

Bid higher!!!

Not sure about Dove bid, but E-bay accepts proxy bids, place the highest amount you want to pay and it will increment until you win or get out bid.
You can alway bid twice as much as it is worth and you will have a pretty good chance of getting the item.

I keep two windows open. The first is my 'ready to bid' window where I put in the highest I'm willing to bid and hit everything but the final 'CONFIRM' button. Then in the second window I refresh the auction until there is about 6 seconds left, switch to the other window and count down 3....2...1... and hit CONFIRM! That gets me about as close to the end as possible. Of course if someone else has a proxy bid higher than yours you'll lose everytime but this works for me about 80% of the time.

I've never used one, but there are 3rd party software packages that will bid for you automatically at the last possible second...I believe one was called "Auction Sniper" or something like that. You pay a small fee but I guess it could be worth it for something you really wanted. Also, a bunch of folks bid on stuff they can't pay for, so contact the seller and let them know that you're interested if the winning buyer fails to complete the deal for any reason. You never know what can happen.

As ransil said, the easiest thing to do is just bid the highest amount you are willing to spend. Online auction places will automatically increment your bid to be the highest one until the thing is sold or you exceed your highest amount. Some will even let you set the minimum amount of increment. For example, you set your increment to $.50. You have the current high bid of $10. Someone bids $11. The system will automatically bid $11.50 for you. If the highest amount you are willing to spend is exceeded by someone at the end and you get upset, then you really didn't have it set at the highest amount you were willing to spend. Read the help of the different online auction places for more on bidding "strategy".
Dovebid is pretty good. I will probably buy a Fritos box van from there if I decide to go 4bt. I got a $1000+ digital height gage once for $175. I forget how much their auction fee is, something like 10% so you have to factor that in.

On Dove Bid read about "proxy bid" as RANCIL suggested. You enter the max amount you are willing to pay, lets say $1500, if other bidders stop at $1000, then the "proxy" automatically ups your bid (don't know what the increments are. Probably set by you.) If your proxy bid is $1050 and no one goes over you, that's what you'll pay (don't forget about dovebid's cut, 13-16% of winning bid) also note that if there's continued activity during the last 5 minutes of the closing time the bidding will continue past the closing time until activity stops....and Dovebid can extend the auction for other reasons too without notice!

Man a hate to say this because it will hurt my success on e-bay but you guys are the reason people like me get good deals. The last several posts hit the nail right on the head.

YOU CAN NOT BID ON EBAY AND WIN A BIDDING WAR UNLESS YOU ARE A FULL FLEDGED GEEK!!!! SOMEONE SOMEPLACE WILL AWAYS BE A BIGGER GEEK. Its just that simple. Some guy in his office with a couple of laptops and his PC, a good program bidding on a T-1 connection will always win. So unless you are that guy heres how you do it.

Also you need to realize that some of the manufacturers that regularly sell their goods on ebay do this just to make sure that they get what they need. It could be you are not willing to pay what someone wants for it. Instead of setting a reserve, because a reserve limits bidding, they set up a couple of fake accounts and run the bid up it it isn't enough to cover costs. Not supposed to do that but thats life. That may be what is happening to you. If you have been bidding a while see if the same winner keeps popping up and what is the neighborhood of the bid he wins it for. If you are not willing to pat that much quit bidding.

In the last 20 seconds or so of the bidding, if it is still in your price range make a bid that is the MOST you will EVER consider spending on it, and just let it ride. If the idiots that keep putting in small bids because they think they will get it cheaper that way bid it up above your price then live with it. By putting it in at the last minute you do not give them many opportunities to bump it.

I put a bid in in this manner with ten seconds left on the clock. Some guy hit it 5 times in that 10 seconds and eventually found my highest bid. OH well I will never be a big enough geek to make that happen and besides that was the most I would have spent anyway.

Put in you highest bid as late as you can, it only goes up if someone else bids.

Live with the results and stop whining, there will be another.

I was bidding on something on DoveBid once and I thought I had it but when I went to refresh the screen, they had added on 10mins! I was pissed off! I let it go after it went past my limit. You have to know what you are willing to spend and walk away if it goes past that.

I hate guys who run the bid up with no intention of buying the item just for fun. The buyer spends more than they have to for no reason. I've seen it happen a few times at live auctions. I guess this is just an example of it coming full circle for you.

I believe what you're seeing is just the nature of how "proxy" bidding works.

Lets say you're the high bidder. Your current bid is $55 but your max bid is $100. If someone bids $75, you automatically get bumped up to $76. If someone then bids $87, you automatically get bumped up to $88, and so on.

BUT, if someone bids $150, they are the new high bidder, but their current bid will only be $101.

Or maybe they are the high bidder at $55 but their max bid is $100. Then every time you bid anything less than $101, they immediately outbid you by $1. That could be why it always seems that they barely outbid you.

in my local farm area .. I'm not used to looseing 99% of the time ...
I got mad on an Ebay 3 grove pully about a year ago ...It was like at about 20.00 to start we bid back and fourth ..this was the 1st one i'd seen in a long while of looking so I backed my ears and put like 80.00 on my bid I finially got it at the last minute ..cost me 67.00 for a 30.00 pully ....
damn ...I win ...

Oh yeah, I understand that completely! Its amazing how deep some people's pockets go for some things Bronco related. Bronco toys are the ones that surprise me... its not unusual to see $250+ for a Bronco toy on ebay
