Anyone run a 4r70w with a 203/205 doubler. I have a 4x4 4r70w and I just picked a 205..I have someone who is selling a 203..will this work with this tranny. My rear end is pushed back 8 inches so driveline length is not a issue..

It's been done and does work. I haven't done it personally so I'm not up on all the details but have run that doubler set up and liked it other than the weight.

Like Yeller said, good combo...

I've been running the 4R70W with a KluneV/Atlas for 6 years... I am currently swapping out the 4.3 Atlas for the 205... 4R70W/KluneV/205 fits in there great. I just upgraded the output shaft on the KluneV to chrome moly...

The 203 weighs more than the Klune and takes up more space. I ran the ZF/203/D20 combo for a dozen years....you'll really like the USABLE gearing options with the 203/205...

Appr. weights:
Atlas weights 115# dry (according to AA). 205 weighs 135# dry (weighed it) ... 203 weighs 70# dry (weighed it)

Doubler weight of 203/205 is advertised at 240#

Strongly recommend a support between the 203 and 205. That is a lot of weight AND leverage to hang off the stock explorer tailhousing alone. That tailhousing was only built to handle a single lightweight alloy transfer case.

Totally agree on 2 trans mounts with one behind the doubler....on top of that I ran the tail shaft housing support ring on my Atlas since I'd heard of some issues with it hanging out there too. Never an issue with this setup

I've installed several 203/205 combos. I always mounted off the adapter between the 2. Using them abusively with multiple mounts always broke the transmission housing in my experience. In high horse power overly abusive aplications I have made a cradle that suported the trans and doubler setup and a mount on that, but I really can't see 95% of the world needing that.

I've had good luck with mounting my 203/205 off of the WMS adapter between the two cases.

My new set up I run 2 mounts off of the 205 for the extra support. Been this way for 4 years and I'm pretty hard on it.
