OK, just did it. Much easier then it could have been.
I had to build mine from scratch as I converted to a column shift and didn't start as a C4. But the column side remains completely stock.
The transmission side needed the arm stretched to 4¼" center to center. I made a shift rod from stock as I didn't have a stock C4 shift rod to start from. Don't know how well a stock C4 shift rod will adapt. Didn't feel like spending money on one just to cut it up. Got the shift detents to line up nicely.

Camera batteries are charging. Very busy Sunday. Work Monday. Maybe Monday night I will have pictures.

I considered the Lokar arm, but I didn't want to drop the trans to put it in.

You can get just the arm #ATA1003 it bolts on to the ford shaft no need to drop or open the transmission is what they told me

So the lokar arm can be bolted on to allow the stock shifter to shift it?
I take it then the OD needs the push button to either deactivate it or activate it?

Mine is all fabbed and hooked up now and it seems to shift just right. I need to finish up all the loose ends of the trans install. On monday, I will get some pics. I dare say it's pretty amazing that I actually got this linkage fabbed up as I am a total retard when it comes to engineering and fabrication. That said...

You can get a lever with a button on the end from a big merc. at the junk yard that will fit your stock column .You will need to do some mods. to it

OK, the worst photos I ever posted. I can't get the camera in there for a good picture, so this is what you get. As I mentioned before, it is REAL EASY. Just extend the Explorer shift arm from the stock 2½" center to center measurement to 4¼" center to center. Adapt a shift rod up to a stock auto column. Done. That's it. If you feel you must spend more money, get the Lokar shift arm and use that.

Math, stock shifter moves 3.3" full stroke. Explorer shift arm moves 1.9" full stroke. Shade tree math said 4¼" would be close. At least those are the numbers I remember. Built part close to spec, installed, stroke matched well, trimmed shaft, installed heim, bolted it all on, the detents line up better then some new cars I have driven.

I asked this question before, but it never got answered. Do you think this mod would work with a 78-79 F150/Bronco tilt auto column?

I have never delt with a '78/9 column. Does the shift linkage on it work the same as a Bronco C4? Even if it is a little different I bet you could still make it work.

The reason I asked, it that with my NP205, the linkage will hit the drive shaft. I have seen what you are talking about before, but I wasn't able to do that because of the front drive shaft. I ended up actually cutting and rotating the column tube and shift tube of a tilt column so the shift lever on the column comes out on the driver's side of the column. I then used the factor explorer cable. I made my adjustment on the column lever and I ended up aroun 3.5" from center to cable attachment, but I bet if you do the math, the center to center on the tranny lever and shift lever added together is the same.
