I wish I didn't lose my pictures of the tear down...

Here's a quick update on my 351 build. The engine is out of a 1996 E350 that had about 100k miles on it. The cylinders were bored 0.020" over, and new SRP forged pistons installed. I forget the specific numbers, but the goal was to keep compression under 10:1 with 60cc heads, but I'm now reusing my iron heads which are what, 62cc? 63cc? Whatever. Should still be in the mid 9's.

New ARP rod and main bolts:

I originally planned to buy aluminum heads, so the block was first painted with aluminum paint to match. I changed my mind a few weeks ago and decided to keep my E7 iron heads so I painted the block with VHT Cast Iron. The intake is a Lightning GT40 tubular. The heads were overhauled and only needed exhaust guides to make them like new again:

The heads, intake, and E350 Serpentine brackets are installed and all painted VHT Cast Iron gray. Just look at that huge power steering bracket...bring on the Saginaw, baby!

Oil pan and valve covers are going to be satin black:

In my parts cabinet I have a new MSD billet distributor, Painless EFI wire harness, and injectors and rails from original engine. I need to get the injectors cleaned up so I can finish the installation and should have it ready to drop in the bronco in a week or two.

I'm still undecided on exhaust manifolds. I have the OEM iron manifolds which would be the cheapest and easiest, but I really want to get the BC shorties. This was originally planned as a no-expense-spared project but in the interest of actually getting finished, I'm now trying to use as many reusable parts as I can.

Well crap. First time to use ForumFotos, and apparently they suck. I'll have to find a new host when I get home tonight.

Nice build! What front dress is that?

That's Econoline. Saginaw P/S and 4G Alternator (I think). The alternator and A/C both mount on pads with bolts pointing towards the engine, rather than lugs with bolts pointing fore/aft.

My only complaint right now is that I'm using a Summit damper that has a goofy clap trap spacer for the serp pulley. I should've just reused my original damper which was probably fine.

Motor looks great- I am surprised no one has dumped on the E7s on a 351...

Me too! I figure for just a nice mild trail torquer they'll be just fine. I really just needed to get this project moving again without spending a great deal of money. Once it's "done" and driving, then maybe I'll look at a few improvements. Function first, flash later.

Scott,

Nice lookin build! Can't wait to see how it all fits. The Econoline brackets looks nice! The only obstacle may be radiator clearance. I guess that we will see as this progresses. ;D

Nice to see another getting love and coming back to life better than ever!

E7's are good heads! Anything else I would have given you shit for, unless they were like 69' heads...

Love that color - Bronco looks sweet too.

Damper and pulley installed. It has a goofy stand-off apparatus that I'm not crazy about. I guess we'll see if it works...

Oil pump and pickup are mounted, but I don't have a nut for the pickup stud so I can't close up the bottom end just yet.

I bought new idler pulley and tensioner pulley today, but they didn't have one of these guys:

I think it's the pulley that goes on the secondary air bracket when you don't have secondary air. Parts store guy couldn't find it, and didnt have any bearings that size either. Might just have to order a bearing unless I can find a replacement part number. The OEM number is: F6TE19A216FB and nobody seems to have one.

Few people will dump on E7/stock heads unless you put them on a stroker or are trying to get 400+ hp. In most cases aftermarket heads are over rated for the builds we tend to do. Of course I like aftermarket heads myself. But I had other reasons that outright performance for using them on my 73.

I'm slightly worried that the P/S bracket won't clear the gear box. Someone on here told me the econoline stuff fits, so fingers are crossed!

I saw the Econoline setup with a Saginaw while browsing the pull-a-part one day - fingers are crossed for you because if it works that Saginaw will be a nice pump to have.

What are you doing for a camshaft? I bought a roller short-block and wanted to get something with a little more lift to take advantage of the rollers, but haven't really shopped around too much just yet.

I'm using the stock cam. I did spec out a little more aggressive one through Comp, but decided to reuse the one I had since it measured out well within wear tolerance. Just call Comp if you want aftermarket and they'll walk you through it.

I'm using the stock Econoline serp setup. No problems at all. Just had to notch the fan shroud a bit. I used a flex fan, though. I believe I have a one in spacer to keep the fan from hitting the belt, but I'm dropping it down to a 1/2". Sits a bit close to the radiator now, but it looks like I have space for the shorter spacer.
