60 and a 9 inch combined

I looked into building a 609 before I picked up my 60 a month or two ago.

The conclusion I came to is that a 609 is superior in many ways if done right but to do it right will cost around $4000 and if you dont do it right then I dont see the point in doing it at all because a regular old 60 is pretty darn good.

The 609 is called that because it is mostly refered to a steering axle using D60 ends and knuckles utilizing the stronger D60 ball joints or kingpins, and using the Ford 9" center section with the easy servicable drop outs.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. I've never heard of anyone doing a rear 609 and can't imagine why anyone would.

You get big ring/pinion with 35 spline semi float shafts that you can get in 5 or 6 lug, pretty strong and cheap way if you are trying to stay 5 lug. Never heard a rear done this way called a 609, just a semi float dana 60.
