The red oxide center section is pretty well accepted as a factory color for the centers. Not sure on the year range but in the end it probably doesnt matter I think it looks pretty good.

Seems like my 73 had a primer colored pumpkin from the factory been so long I cant remember for sure but I did repaint it with red oxide primer. But now its a little lighter colored as I found a spray paint that was about the same color as the red oxide not a gloss more like a satin color but better than primer. I'll have to go check out what brand and color it was for sure tomorrow.

I was just in a Paint Supply company a few days ago looking for the same thing.

It is Red Oxide Primer which I found in a SEM product. I had a Top coat made the same color as the primer in Semi-Gloss.

Turned out very nice and to me looks to be a good match in color.

I fell for the red third and went with a rattle can enamel.

Here is how mine turned out with the Red Oxide Paint in Semi Gloss.

It's actually a little more Orange than pictured.
