My old 60A 1G has been good. But this past summer I noticed it doesn't want to keep up at idle. It was OK before, but the added EFI and idle output drops off. Bumping idle speed a little won't quite cover it. At night with the lights and A/C running is just a little too much. I can do light or A/C but not both in stop and go traffic. Only at speed will it work. I did a check and the 1G is working perfect. Just to the point now where I have loads in excess of idle performance.

I know the straight pattern 3G is a good fix. But the 130A doesn't like a single V-belt. I am going with a stock theme on this and not going to do the serpentine route as much as it would make things easier. With A/C there is no way to double belt the alternator, single belt is the only option. The low mount of the alternator will help hide it in a rather stock appearing engine bay. That is where I think the low output version of the 3G would be a good choice. Better idle performance, not so much to squeal the belt on every startup. The trouble is everything looks to be the 130A. What used the 95A How can you tell if it is the 95 and not the 130?

There are sections on the front of the case, webbing for lack of a better description, with some holes in it. 4 holes for a 95 amp and 2 holes for a 130 amp. Hard to describe but a quick google search will show you what you need to know.

Here's my 2-hole 3G. Single Goodyear Gaotorback belt, no startup squeal.
EDIT: I bought mine from WH in April of 2011. Still going strong.

FWIW, I run a single v-belt on my 130A 3G and haven't had issues with squeal. And I've done a fair amount of winching with this setup. But the 95A may be a good solution for you if you won't utilize the extra capacity anyway.

I would go for the 130 amp and go to a rebuilder and get a larger dia pulley. The larger pulley would give you more belt wrap and more output at idle. It solved my problem of belt squeal when I mounted my Sanden compressor in the smog pump mount when doing a Mustang front dress conversion. Yes I am running a serpentine belt but the compressor really cut down on the belt wrap and caused it to squeal before I increased the pulley size on the alternator. It would probably work on a v-belt system also. Rebuilder charged me $5 for a larger dia pulley.

OK, you gave me enough to figure this out.

The face of the alternator has 3 spokes to it. If the spokes have 2 holes each, 130A. But 4 holes is the 95A version.

Getting the mounting feet right is another challenge.

While it was used in a few different applications, looks mostly late 90s pre-super duty trucks. The simplest cross reference shows up as a '93 Aerostar with a 3.0 V6 engine.

I plan to order one up ($85 new) after the first of the year.

Correct. A '93 ('92 to '94 same) Aerostar 3.0 should use the #7758 with standard mounting layout. After '94 they started using the sideways mount like you would see on most later vehicles, including the Explorers.

A #7749 is actually an 85a version that most will upgrade with a 95a when replacing.
Maybe they've even been superseded by now.

A larger diameter pulley is usually a good idea for these. Even my old large-case 1G at 70a had a squeal to beat the devil when I first installed it.

All '93-96 F-series/Bronco/E-series w/4.9L use a face-mount 95A 3G, except ambulance package 130A. There are at least 4 face-mount patterns: modular (unequal legs at the bottom), narrow 95A & narrow 130A (both used on F/B/E), and at least 1 wide pattern.

This shows the narrow 95A with a V8 130A:

In addition to the vent holes between the ribs, the 130A housing is noticeably larger. This shows the narrow 130A, but you can also see the bolt holes for the narrow 95A in the bracket:

This is the modular 3G, and the caption explains how they all work:

If you run a 1in smaller water pump pulley, it allows you room for your alternator belt to only go around the crank and alternator. This doubles the alternator pulley engagement.
