Almost finished rebuilding the c4 i bought cheap and have a couple unresolved issues I think...
1. When I removed the d20 tc from the np435 adapter that the po put in my bronco the spud shaft remained on the D20 and looks robe held in place by arubber retainer and some type of metal band ( looks like a seal on a dirt bike fork leg)
Will this spud shaft work when I bolt it up to e new c4, or do I need to source a new spud shaft and remove the old one ( hopefully not losing the 13 needle bearings in the d20 during the removal process) and how do I get it out... Remove that metal band and the rubber retainer?

2. How do I know if I have a j or T sle d20? Idk if the po installed this style shifter or it's stock ( I will post a link to my photobucket album with pics of my d20 shortly)

3.where can. I find a 164 tooth bell housing needed for my install of this 70's case fill c4? If anyone has one they might part w(budget style)please pm me, or a 157 tooth bell and torque converter.. I have a 164 tooth torque conv. 11 1/2" bolt pattern Already ,so tryin to use if possible.

4. How can I get the pilot bearing out of the crank without a puller or w/out damaging anything? Another member told me to pack with grease and use a prybar to wedge it out but idk how that will work if the bearing doesn't have room for the grease to get between so will probly be more mess than worth... Then again idk what I'm doin so what the h anyways.
I appreciate all the help I get and have gotten already:eek:

1. your old spud shaft will work although you may have to shorten it a little you may want to check the fit. I think something like 3/8" is what the manual shafts normally need to be shortened to work with a auto.
2. thats a t shift with either a aftermarket shifter or home made job not sure guess it could be a 66 shifter but i havent seen one to be sure. the bend your has is not stock.
3. cant really help you on the belhousing issue your going to have to search around.
4. as you were told fill the hole with grease find a bolt that just fits the hole and hammer it in should pop right out. if not find a bolt that almost goes in and wrench it in there then use a pry bar to remove. Also they do make pullers some local parts stores will usually rent them out.

Old spud MAY work. Some manual spuds don't have a deep enough inner hole after cutting. Seems to me like the older spuds don't work. Auto spud is exactly 7 3/8" long with a 2" deep hole.

That spud and bearing retainer will pull straight out of the tcase. The rubber thing is the seal.

Ok, so if we lived in a perfect world ( if) the d20 should bolt up without mod. But worst case is I have to pull the whole spud out and cut off 3/8" and it should work, if it's still 2" deep +-, correct?

And thanks for the help, Vipor , also shamu sometimes when I read somethin one way it clicks ori jus need to be told twice , I'm special:/
just want as many unforseens to be seen ( so to speak)
