Funny you should say that blubuckaroo. I have the plastic air inlet behind the battery and i took another plastic air inlet and cut and rotated the part that hooks to the air cleaner hose and mounted it on the drivers side and cut a hole in the core support to match the passenger side. Now i have cold air inlets on both sides and all i need is the ductwork that connects them them to the air cleaner. I really want the paper type or the vinyl type. The hard plastic like mustangs has is too round at the plastic plenum piece

And broncoman, that was why i did it that way. Not to mention I have always loved that air cleaner. I think it the best looking factory air cleaner ever made. Next to factory shaker and ram air setups

I think a lot of the "exhaust drone" that owners are fighting, is actually intake roar when the secondaries are open.
Your set-up might eliminate a lot of that.;)

Just might. I dont have the wing nut on right now but when i give it some gas the lid sucks down to the carb. And it is 100% quieter with the cleaner on than off

I like mine, but it wasn't cheap. Bought from Summitracing. I like it because I have easy access to everything even with the breather installed. Edelbrock intake, Holley carb. Figure with a washable filter you break even after a while of not buying paper filters.
SPE-9729 4" PIPE $23.97
SPE-9736 AIR FILTER $30.97
SPE-9771 TUBE COUPLER 4" $14.97
SPE-98499 AIR HAT $99.99

I like this set up. Powder coat it blue and with a quick glance looks like a stock filter! Maybe not but close.

I have the big Edelbrock triangle mounted in reverse. It clears the distributor, throttle, and Edelbrock carb fuel inlet better that way.
It does produce a considerable roar when the secondaries open though.

I believe that the OE air cleaners flow better than open element types that fit without butchering the hood or doing a body lift. The cross hood brace pushes the lid of a traditional flat top air cleaner down to the point that it limits air flow. This and the fact that the drop base covers the carb aggravating the well known Bronco tendency for carb percolation are big pluses for the OE air cleaner. None of the open element types offer cold air intake or silencing of the carb drone at full throttle, that occurs without the secondaries ever opening. I know the common preconception of what a dressed up engine should look like includes a chrome or polished aluminum open element air cleaner. This to me drives this thread. It may look just as exotic to chrome the OE air cleaner and not loose the advantages of a part designed for the truck.

I'm running the 1406 with the low profile manifold, picked up this aircleaner from jegs but it BARELY fits....be careful what you use to secure it or you will have an indentation on the hood

Ok do you have a body lift on your truck? Or was there any mods you had to do to make that work? I thought a 14" diameter cleaner with a 3" element would be too tall and hit the hood...

What does that air cleaner cover say? I’m going with those same bronco valve covers on my ‘66 and that looks great!

Performer Intake, 14" KN with drop base and 3" Filter would fit.

QuikLatch has a Push Button latch for the center post of the carb. Lowest latch system I've found and much lower than the Wing-Nut (1/2"?) with nothing higher than the lid itself.
