I bought some American Bronco rock skis for Xmas and I am working on getting them installed. They come quite long and need a bit trimmed in order to fit. I really wanted to trim them at the same angle as my flares, but then I will have to trim the fenders a bit more and cut off the support between the inner and putter fender. Should I cut it anyways, cut the end of the skis at a straight 90, or cut them at a slightly different angle than the flares?

I like to follow the flares. You can regain support for the fender by drilling the ski and bolting the fender to them.

Not to hijack, but can you use those as steps like the duff tube style?

How about none of the above?;)
Cut them to match the current shape of the fender opening, then cut the flares flush across the top of the rocker guard.

I realize that this changes the whole look, and that keeping the flares looks very clean too.
But cutting the guards to fit the fender sheet metal actually lets them protect the sheet metal all the way, and protect the flares as well. Which I think is worth it.

By the way, why would you need to remove the fender brace if you follow the flare?
Is it that the bolt is sticking down? If so, either cut a hole in the guard the size to allow the bolt head to stick through, OR drill a hole the size of the bolt shank and use a longer bolt, OR use a specialty fastener that gets the clearance (with maybe a little dimple on the inside of the rocker guard for clearance) and cover the bolt/screw head with the rocker guard.

Or is it something else other than the bolt?

The way the fenders are currently cut I only have about 1in from the fender support bolt forward. In order to be more streamlined I need to trim the fender a bit more and I will trim the ski to match the fender. I started cutting today and I left the top square section at a 90 flat cut and matched the fender flare angle with the rest of the ski. This allowed me to keep the fender brace in its original location.

I agree with Paul. I fitted mine to the sheet metal and afterwards I think it looks silly. Definitely cut the flares on top of the skis

Bringing this back from the dead, jperry1290 do you have any finished photos of the rock skis? I have the same ones and am trying to decide if I want to go this route or just put factory panels back on.

Thanks!

I'm guessing most of these are built off the bc 1/4" rock skis. If any of you guys have the cut off pieces laying around can you send me one if I pay shipping? I'm just looking for one scrap piece to compare the angle for another truck.
