Anybody use this TBI setup? I know it's old technology, but I hear once it's tuned correctly, it works well.

Anyways, I was hoping someone here uses one and could give me some tuning help.

Cool. I was hoping you could tell me the TPS voltage at idle. And where your idle set screw is? Like if you turn it all the way clockwise, how far it is unscrewed?

If it is the Holly Projection 2D, the TPS voltage should be .63 ti .65 VDC between the blue and black wires with the ignition turned on but the engine not running. I have the manual for the 2D system. If you want I could scan the tuning proceedure and email them to you.

I ran this system on mine for quite a while.

I do have the manual, but I still can't tune it for the life of me. I must be dyslexic or something. Is the 0.63v suppose read at idle? Or with the idle screw turned all the way counter clockwise? Then how much do you open the idle screw on the TBI? 2 turns?

The only way I can get it to idle is to have the TPS read around 0.85v at idle. But then it seems like it's running way too rich.

The voltage should be set with the engine off and key in the run position. I think when you set it the first time set all of the cpu dials like it show on page 32 Figure 19. That is where the idle setting proceedure is located as well as the other settings. The main setting will also affect the idle so your best bet is to set all of them as shown and start from there.

I have to say that I ran this for quite a while, probably around 10 years, but never really got it tuned in that great. It actually never failed me and it did run pretty reliably but as you say it ran pretty rich most of the time. .85 volts would make it run rich. One thing, don't ever let it get below the .63 volts. If you notice your engine running really hot with no explanation that will probably be the culprit. I had that issue once.

I know more who "had" it then currently "have" it.
The analog is horrible, but way better then a bad carb. But not as good as a good carb or good EFI. Here in AZ it was common to mount the box within arms reach so it could be dialed in while driving, to adjust for altitude and fuel quality.
I remember following friend up a mountain who had one and I asked about the puff of black smoke. He commented that was where he was dialing it in for the altitude.

I learned enough to get a feedback EFI (Projection 4DI) that was way better then the analog. But still way behind what a stock Ford EEC-IV mustang based EFI could do.

I may not have the whole manual, my manual doesn't have 32 pages.

The thing I am having the most trouble with, is when I have the TPS set at 0.63-0.65v I cannot get the unit to idle. No matter how I adjust the idle screw on the TBI (which then changes the TPS voltage).

So, new question, am I supposed to readjust the TPS back to 0.63 after messing with the idle screw? The manual said something about taking the return spring off to set the TPS, what's up with that?

I will scan the set up parts of the pages tonight if you want and send them to you. One other thing when I installed mine the first time my return fuel line was to restricted and it wouldn't run or idle at all. I forget too many things from that long ago. I think I installed it around 96 or 97. The manual does state that you may have to readjust the TPS voltage a few times during initial setup.

Thank you. I'm sure that will help.
