another carb problem

ok guys have everything hooked up but unsure sbout the vacume lines. the 2 vacume lines running from the vacume advance canister on the distributer, where do they need to be hooked up? are they manifold or ported vacume? got them hooked up now but buddy checked with his cheby boys and they thought we had it hooked up wrong but i trust you guys more. could you cap one of these lines. by the way this is a holley 600 cfm carb. also what should i set the timing at?

depending on the cam, i'd run 6-8* timing. sounds like you have a dual vacuum advance. you can cap off the port closest to the cap, then run the other line to the side of the holley in front of the choke for advance. the port you're capping off is a vacuum return for whan you let off the gas, manifold vacuum closes the advance. if you want you can run that port to manifold vacuum, but it's not necessary. i'd go to the local parts store and get a single vacuum advance (just the diaphram, not the whole distributor) and replace it. i did and noticed a little difference in power.
