Between a 33 inch tire on a 15 inch rim and a 35 inch tire on a 17 inch rim which would behave better for on road and freeway driving or is it too close to call? Truck will have 3.5 inch lift and will be daily driver 90% and driving on the beach 10% of the time. 33s on 17 are just too non-traditional for me.

Hard to tell mostly due to many variations in construction I would think. Most of the differences would be tread design, but if given the same brand and model, I would think they'd be close. But with a slight advantage to the 17 with what might be a higher load rating.
You're pretty much at identical (on paper) sidewall heights, so no major difference there. But are the sidewalls the same design from one to the other? I don't have enough experience with 17's or tires in general anymore to know.
I'm sure others will have some real-world experiences though. Lots of 17's finding their way on to EB's nowadays.

Unfortunately, "most" of them are likely not apples to apples comparisons, as many new owners won't know what the old ones felt like when new, and they may have changed the entire brand and tire type at the same time.

Interested to hear what others say though.

The 35's will have a slightly higher COG, and more un-sprung weight. Will you change gears to match?
