Any tricks to getting the glass out of the windshield frame?

Hi Guys --
Appreciate all your help. The rubber on my windshield is pretty new, but I need to replace the glass. Any tricks or tips to getting the old glass out and the new glass in?

Are you trying to reuse the seal? If not, I don't think it matters how you get it out!

If you are, I was able to do the rear liftgate glass slowly and carefully using a 2 flat pry bars (I think one was a painters 5 in 1 tool, and the other a large putty knife) Start with one corner and then work your way around.

I sprayed some silicone lube around the old seal before pushing it out.

Incidentally, Jim doesn't mention it in the video above, but are you guys putting some dish soap or silicone or something on the new seal before installing it? I'll be doing it in a few weeks on a freshly painted windshield frame, so the stakes will be a bit higher! If you look closely at that video, it looks like the seal is pulling up bits of paint.

I had my wife stand outside and hold the glass while I pushed the glass out. I peeled the seal up and started pushing at the passenger side bottom. Once you get it started, it comes out easily. For install, I used military 550 cord. It won't break and it's thin enough to pull out easily. Last install took less than 5 minutes with this cord. Good luck!

Oh yeah...no soap or lubricant needed. Just be sure to pull toward the center of the glass with the cord. We have new paint as well and I was worried about it. No issues.
