Any Value in '93 F250

Local guy selling a '93 F250 that's been sitting for about 4 yrs.

Has 351 & 5 spd (ZF?) and that's really all I asked about.

The owner isn't asking a whole lot for it. I have a gutted '69 Bronco that needs a drivetrain.

Other than the engine and tranny, what else has value?

Any set of wheels and tires with tread is sellable.
Straight bumpers and grillework
Seats that aren't shredded
Leaf springs
Rear axle
Driveshafts

If you ebay, a bunch of electronics are sellable that there's no local market for.

IMO the average beat down, rusty truck has $300-600 worth of stuff depending on a whole lot of things. Half is the condition of the truck, the other is your willingness to tear down and list items before there's a buyer in-hand.

A good example is rear leaf springs. You will about have people fighting over them at $50-75 a pair, loose from the truck. But may not be able to sell them at that price, on the truck. Because pulling them with hand tools is a beeotch.

Successful strategies to generate traffic including stating you'll beat the local u-pull-it in your overall parting out ad. As well as removing parts you think have a market, then doing a good ad with photos, part numbers, or measurements.

And you'll still probably throw away one thing you thought was sellable, long after the truck's gone :)

good luck with the project, with a little elbow grease there might be a free powertrain (or maybe a pickup box trailer) in your future!

Thanks for the input.

My goal is to buy the truck, pull the engine and tranny and whatever else might be useful for the bronco and scrap the rest to get as much of my money back as possible. I was looking for important things like, I had better get the computer and all the sensors including the check engine light or other crucial items that would be good to have and not scrap.

I am Ford ignorant, personally driving an old CJ7 running on LP. The bronco is for my dad to come crawling with me.

I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I'm thinking I can get it for less than 600 which seems like a steal to me.

If it's an XLT model, you can use the intermittent wiper switch on your EB.

Is it 4wd? If not then the ZF is not really the one you want. The EFI setup on that 351 is not really used by many people for one the intake manifold is way to tall to fit under a bronco hood. Most people swap to a car upper manifold and mustang type computer. Not sure if you can keep the truck computer with the car upper but it may be possible. Grab the fuel pump as well tho they are good to have for a EFI swap.
The rear axle can sell other parts depend on overall condition. As with most things it may take time to sell off a lot of parts.

It is a 4wd, however the owner suggests it does not work.

Edit:

So, if you (anyone) could get this 351W and ZF for $600 and then scrap the doner for "x" amount, probably $400-550, would you do it?

BTW actual scrap prices are super duper low right now. Better count on the money coming from parting out rather than running it across the scales.

However it's catalytic converter is probably worth at least $50 to the scrapman if the insides are intact.

I wouldnt even worry about getting that much out of it a 351W and 4wd ZF are worth the price alone. Whatever you get in scrap is a bonus. Although I would try sell off any left over parts first.

Honestly, this is what I needed to know. Thanks for the reassuring comment.

Well, I went and checked it out.

Actually turned out to be a house I was at 10 yrs ago with a friend who bought a D300 from a CJ7 for cheap. Anyway, the truck is red with a primer left front fender. It is in fact a F250 with a 5.8 & ZF. It didn't have a battery, I had brought one, and the positive cable end was gone just bare positive ends, I had also brought some jumper cables so we used a clamp to attach to positive to the battery, hooked up negative and it cranked no start. Tried several times before someone puts some gas in the front tank. Still no start, tried a bit of starting fluid and it fired, did this a couple times and then I told them to stop.

So, I bought the truck. Already may have found one score, the locking hubs should works as spares for my D60 on my CJ. Supposedly the TTB 50 has 30 spline outers, same as the 60.

I will post up some pics after I go back with the trailer.

Edit:

I understand about the height of the intake, whoah.

When I was leaving I noticed a green Eddie Bauer exployer parked. Checked it out and it was a 98 V8 model. Looked like it had been sitting. Maybe they will sell me the intake.

For that one get the whole engine. Maybe even the tranmssion. Lots of people use the serpantine system off them as they are the shortest ones you can get. Also the rear disc brakes can be made to fit some broncos rear axles.

I have another question.

I have a complete propane kit and was thinking about installing it on the original 302 from the Bronco. Can I remove the entire intake, install a replacement 4 barrel intake and run this 351 on propane? That would sure clear up the height issue wouldn't it.

Should be no issues going to propane as long as you stick with a stock manifold or somthing low like stock as the 351W is about 1in taller than a 302 so any added height makes air cleaner clearance tight. Usually a 1in body lift is suggested with a 351. Not required tho. especailly if you run a hood scoop.

I think I'm gonna do the propane if really all I need is a replacement intake and I think I would use an HEI distributor for the one wire simplicity.
