Anyone used a pto pin in place of expensive quick release door hinges?

I had the idea to try this and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this? I found a link researching from one guy that did it, but he used a torch. I have a shop press so I'd remove the hinges and press them out, and probably grind the pto pins instead of drilling the factory hinges so I could use both. http://www.broncohio.com/tech/hingepins.html

I take it this hasn't been done much before.. Just seems to make sense as a 6 pack of pto pins is $5.99 vs $250 for quick release hinges.

I ran that setup for a while. I tried it because my hinges were loose. Worked out OK but the doors are not easy to take on and off with the pins. I ended up buying lift off hinges eventually.

Yes it worked perfectly. I reamed them to fit almost too tight. plus there was that sweet sensation of double sheer when I was going thru whooptee doos at Pismo. I can't for the life of me come to use the SS QR because I just don't trust the door latch to keep them on in a bad situation. If they made a conventional hinge in SS my Bling asss would be on a set like a stripper to a Benjamin:eek::eek::eek: I also tried the QR pins with the bearing detent but, the head on those interfered as it was too close to the door panel to slide in without damaging the paint. I ended up making a tiny SS braid cable lanyard to hold a tiny SS hair pin I used on the bottom hole just in case the sky fell and the pin decided to slide upward and off(yeh right). All in all it worked great and no need for bushings, I used a little graphite to lube them. The new owner of my old 75 loves em' as I forgot to take them off before I sold it friggin A!!!!!!!
