Are all Dana 44 hubs the same?

I buggered mine up when I did bearings last time and now the lockouts don't disengage so well. Can I replace these with hubs off of any Dana44 that is 5x5.5? This is on a 77. Note that I am talking about the HUB, not the lockout. The parts store wants ~$100 each, btw.

I'm not positive on your question but I would think you can beat that price easily. Post in the parts wanted section, surely somebody has one laying around you could get cheap.

good luck.

And I believe that the answer is, NO, not all 44 hubs are the same. The only difference though, for Ford from between a '71 and a '79 Dana 44 however, would be the fact that some are for drum brakes, others for discs.
So, drum for drum, they're the same. Disc for disc, they're the same. But they don't interchange.

You runnin' discs now?

If you buggered the old ones? Can't you just clean up the splines with a file or something? Is that what the issue is? If your lockouts are not working properly, that's what it sounds like, if you had stock lockouts.
What type of lockout are you running now? Stock Spicer? Aftermarket?

The actual hub, part with 5 lug studs.

I know of at lest 3 versions.
Drum
Disk
funky '87 to 89(?) version that took 3-bolt hubs.

Probably a few others as well. I bet the '96 with ABS is yet another variation as well.

From my understanding the '76 through '86 are the same. Possibly the 90-95 as well (after the funky hub died) and I bet even the '96 would work without a problem.

The drum does not interchange with disk. Something about the way the lockout goes into the hub apparently makes the late 80's stuff special as well.

I messed up the splines on the current ones. I haven't yet taken them apart again to try to fix them with a file, though it had crossed my mind. Also, an errant blow from the hammer put one a little out of round on the end.

I've hammered out bent hubs & used them with no problems.

It was '87-early 88 with factory manual locks that uses a 1-piece hub/rotor. All others from '80-early 94 were the same. Late '94-96 are different in the bearing spacing, and the overall length due to a revised inner seal. '93-96 Bronco hubs also have a machined lip for the 4WABS tone ring; I'm not sure if F-series have the lip or not.
