I am thinking about replacing my duel 24 yr old 22inch glass packs. Are the Cherry Bombs good? I don't want something louder than what I have (forgot what they sounded like new). What do you suggest I go with?

Last set I had was several years back. They were on a 71 Mustang and some people commented they could here me coming from a 1/4 mile away.

Is water wet? Is ice cold? :)

I had glasspacks as well and cherry bombs are louder. I liked the sound of gpacks but went with flowmaster 50's. Next time magnaflows. Just depends on what you like and what you think is loud.

Good luck.

If your current glass packs are 24yrs old you're pretty much running straight pipes as I'm sure any fiberglass insulation has burned off many, many years ago.

But yeah, my cherry bombs are LOUD. If Im on it, its very loud, but if I'm coasting its nice. My next set will probably be a set of 50's.

When I first met my wife, she used to hear me a mile down the road prior to picking her up for a date. Gave her time to get ready;D

Too loud! My opinion. The neighboors didn't like too much. ;)

I just installed a set of 22 inchers last tuesday, and they are loud. I have a set of SLP Loudmouth's on my 01 Mustang GT, and it is louder, but not by much. All of my neighbors are used to it, but none of them like it.

On another note, it's just right in the cab on the highway. You can hear it but it's not annoying. IMO only to loud in the neighborhood at high rpms. I personally love them! My wife and dad say I'll never grow up, I'm cool with that!

What?
I ran cherry bombs for years with my exit right in front of the rear tires. I really liked how they sounded but they are too loud I no longer run them. On a full lenght system they may not be as bad but they are still loud.

I will add that it depends. A pair of glasspacks on the International and it isn't that bad. Stock motor with some pipe. another truck and all we had was a pair of 12" packs off a scrap exhaust system. We put them on as temperary to move it around. Perfect except for a resonate in the cab at highway speeds. Other engines it was the same as open pipes. I tried a Termanater muffler once, glasspacks are quieter then that thing was.

Generally, yes they are loud. But perfect in a tunnel!

Do you have to pass a state inspection?
I just failed with two summit turbo mufflers.

well first off wow 24 years with the same mufflers I am impressed

What diameter pipes are you running, and tell us about your engine, and what trans? Without knowing this it is hard to recomend a muffler. Also do you still want it fairlly loud or do you want it fairlly quiet?

But just for shits and giggles lets assume you are running 2.25 inch pipes

A direct replacement would be something like this-4 inch round body, 22 inches long
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE-10435&N=700+115&autoview=sku

You could also go with two of these-5 inch round body, but only 14 inches long. Yes a smaller muffler in length, but more sound insulation
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE-12865&N=700+115&autoview=sku

Magnaflow also makes both these mufflers in 2 and 2.5 inch versions
You can go here and see what they make
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universalsatinr.asp?shape=round

while I can't say for sure, but sometimes a shorter muffler with a larger diameter case could be quieter than a longer muffler with a smaller diameter case

Edit

I am also assuming the rest of your exhaust is also 24 years old, and I am assuming you will be replacing the rest of the pipes as well?? If so you might want to consider going with a single muffler like a lot of us have done in the past few years. If so it could save you some money, and still give you the sound and performance you are looking for.

I run straight shorty pipes right off the header. I think it sounds great. Had Glasspacks on my last bronco and think it sounds about the same without paying for anything.

Have you ever thought of running a set of cherry bomb vortex mufflers? I was running a set of those with full length headers for six years. People could here the bronco from quite away, I liked the sound especially at higher rpm's, but they were never annoying to me or anyone else. I would get them again definately.

I was toying with the idea of either cherry bombs or thrush or possibly purple hornies. Half these people don't pay attention, I was thinking it might be a good "watch out I'm coming" warning.

When I was much younger, I had a 68 Camaro, mothers used to pull their children off the streets and old people would run out of the way.
