I have a Scout II dana 44 rear houisng that is cleaned and coated with rust oleum. I took the 3.07:1 gears out. I want to know if the 4.10:1 gears I took out of my Chevy dana 44 front end will go in the Scout II dana 44 rear end?

I will clarify: I bought a Ford dana 44 front high pinion with drum brakes. I bought a Scout II dana 44 rear for $33 for no good reason. Then I bought a Chevy dana 44 front end with 8-lug outters and disc brakes. The outters and brakes are going on my Ford front end. I want to put the 4.10:1 gears in the Scout II rear end to make it a nice rear end for someone who needs a nice rear end.

front and rear gears can be swapped. what you cant use is low pinion gearsets into high pinion or vise a versa as the high pinion are reverse cut gears.

And you need the right carrier depending one the ratio. that is the 3.07 carrier won't work with the 4.11 gears. They are on different sides of the case break. But if you have the 4.11 carrier with the 4.11 gears you are good.

There are a few oddities (not related to the axles you have). Some of the newer Dana44 stuff isn't the good old Dana44 we know. Some stuff after about '04 is labeled as a Dana 44, but isn't. Everything is different, ring gear is bigger, axles have more splines, etc. These include Dodge Viper, Jeep Rubicon, Nissan Titan and probably a few more. But any pre '00 should be safe, unless you get a really old one with the 19 splines axles.
