Today I noticed an Astro van at the U-pull it yard with the hydro boost intact. So I’m looking for advice on how to remove it and suggested tools if I go back for it.

Two nuts hold the master cylinder to the booster. One pressure line fitting into the booster, one pressure line fitting out to the steering box. Four nuts hold it to the firewall. One cotter pin holds the rod to the brake pedal.

Remove all of these, clip the return line hose (keep the nipple), and the booster should pull right out.

The fittings are all metric, so metric sockets if you have them. I typically use vice grips in the engine bay and a socket wrench with a foot long extension under the dash.

I've pulled probably four dozen of these in the past 15 years. I can do it in about 20 minutes now. Contorting your body under the dash to get the firewall nuts and cotter pin out of the push rod is the most difficult part.

I was thinking it bolted to the firewall from the inside. Thanks for the information.

Thanks for all the advice. I hope it's still their next week. I have to go out of town for four days to attend a funeral.
