New sending unit in my aux tank. Checked ohm reading while tank was out of truck by flipping tank upside down. Got good readings for full and empty so thought I was good. Put tank in truck and filled with 5 gallons of fuel. No reading on guage. Checked wiring and guage by jumping my connector at the sending unit. Guage will go up to full. Sending unit was leaking so went to tighten the locking ring by turning it. Now my sending unit turned and I'm not sure how it should be oriented so it might work properly. I have included a picture of it in hopes someone will know how I need to turn it for correct position.

Was there a tab on the backside of the sender? That should locate it where it should sit.

All I can see is what is in the picture. Locking ring should turn and tighten up on sender to keep it from leaking. When I tried to tighten it, the whole unit turned . Wanted to reposition it without removing from the tank. That might be my only option though.

Here are a couple of pictures of the tabs and tab slots that locate the sender. If yours is spinning, then something has gone awry for sure. Sometimes they get crushed when you are not paying attention. If so, straigthen them and go again.

Got my leaking sending unit seal on aux tank repaired and now there is gas in my tank. Tested my sending unit while the tank was out. Got 7 ohms and flipped the tank and got 75ohms. Put 5 gallons of gas in tank and now it reads 45 ohms. Still no movement on my gauge. Put 15 gallons in my rear Sherman 23 gal tank and the gauge moved up to the first line past empty on the gauge. Rechecked my grounds on both tanks. Guage will go to full when I jump the wires to both of the tanks. So I think guage and tank switch and wiring is ok. Sending unit seems to be in spec also. Other guages in cluster, oil and temp, work and seem to be correct. I have replaced ammeter with Wild Horses volt guage. It seems to work correctly. Any ideas where to look now to get gas guage working? I have stock wiring harness. Have removed wires from tank selector switch and cleaned terminals good. Bypassed switch while it was out and got same reading on rear tank.

Aux tank 45 ohms reading at tank, or at switch?
If at tank, what is ohm reading on wire at switch?
