I just installed steering on my 77 Bronco. I did the tie-rod over setup. The steering hits the lower trac-bar bolt. Anybody have a fix for this? Even if I went under it still would hit.
Most choose to run an axle riser bracket which moves the track bar up enough to not be an issue (at least not with the tie-rod). Depending on the amount of lift you're running, you'll need to be careful with respect to the riser hitting the frame under full stuff.
Can you just shorten the bolt, or does that not gain you enough?
I have never heard of this bracket. Oh by the way, no lift, I'm running 33" but this still does'nt affect tie-rod isssue but that bracket your talking about would possibly help. I looked at it again and I can go under without hitting but I have already reamed the top holes. So now I think I'm stuck with over the top. Anybody who has used this same setup must have the same problems with the track bar bolt. Yes I can remove some of the bolt but it's one of those things I wish I would have known about.
I also installed mine tie rod over. I cut the nut and bolt right at the cotter pin hole then drilled 2 holes in the big washer and ran bailing wire across the notch left by the cotter pin through the holes in the washer. Mine bump steers real bad and will need a track bar raise. I cut the bracket and bolt off a d30 and will have someone with better welding skills than I weld it up for me.
The axle riser is recommended with 3 1/2" of suspension lift or more. You may run into other difficulties installing it with no lift.
BTW here's a thread with good pics of the riser... http://www.classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99000
