What taper do I put on the 3/4" straight hole? Is this just a "get it close" with a reamer?

One more question. Would it be a bad idea to have a spare heim stud in the box or is that overkill?

Sorry for all of the questions.

Jeff
Q's are good! Much better than misunderstandings. Anyway, do not ream the holes until you get the TRO bushings. The ream is 1.5" of taper per 1' or length. Snap-on # R-121
I wouldn't carry a spare stud but maybe a spare heim. I don't expect them to have a problem either. This week end on John Bull Jason ran into a big rock that stopped his EB when the new tie rod contected the front axle. I was a little surprized that the tie rod was straight when he backed up.

Chuck - Started to install the Heim Joint system that I ordered from you a couple weeks ago. I've got a 77'.

First thing I noticed is that the tie rod bar is too long. I had the heim's all the way in and the front of the tires are still approximately a 1/4-1/2" wider than the rear of the tires. Second, is the steering linkage is way too long. The only way I could get it to work is if I positioned my pitman arm at a 90 degree angle to the drivers tire (not good).

Question: When we spoke on the phone I mentioned that I had a 77 and when placing the order on line I mentioned that the EB was a 77. Is there two kits? 66-75 & 76-77.

Or - Do the kits require fabrication? I've heard some comments about cutting and tapping, etc.

I'm hoping that I won't have to cut, as I really don't have the tools to do it properly.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

The threads are about 2" plus so a little triming can be done but most of the ones that come out wrong are about 5" off.

Chuck are your measurements taken off a early 44 fitted with F150 Knuckles? if so that may be why they dont fit the 76-77 ones as the F150 knuckles end up being about 1/2 wider overall than the stock setup. I'd suspect that they may not fit on stock knuckles either, or possibly someone got a miss measured rod

Try your drag link first and you may be able to trim one side or both to make everything work.

my drag link is 3"+ long also. I really don't want to have to cut it down. If I bring it up to your shop one of these days can you cut it there? I'm not in too much of a hurry for it. ;D

I looked at it again... There's not enough threads in the DOM. I'd need to run a tap into it.... I don't have one. :'(

If you do cut it, cut the side with the right handed threads.

This setup is on Jasons EB. The tierod and drag links we sell will be powdercoated black but may get to you with scratches and/or chips.

Chuck do you have a straight on view of the location of your saddle on the tie rod?

I have a good idea of where I'm putting mine but I would like to see a finished on straight on if it's easy for you. The pics of jasons seem to be from an angle.

Thanks
Jeff

At this min. I do not have a camera but from the end of the tube to the center of the saddle is 4" Both ends are right thread. If you plan to cut cut it on the drivers side. We put the saddle where it is to avoid the radius are cap when you are turning

Well..........finally got to the point that I was ready to install the drag link and steering arm. I had to send original back, take measurements from zurk to zurk and from right zurk to pitman arm stud. Sent original back and received modified version.

Went to install, just to find that the "modified" drag link was still an inch too long and the pitman arm was still 2 1/2" too long. Frustrating to say the least.

Anyway, got tired of fooling with it, shipping, etc. and cut the thing down myself. Had to retap ends. Now - everything is installed. Let's hope it drives like a dream and I can forget about the install.

I'll report back shortly.
