I think you need to start this thread over with a time line, and pictures in order by date. So many color combos, it looks like 10 different racers ;D

Funny, I thought the same thing! :p But, that is the order I received the pictures. Maybe I am too quick to share? I guess I will just have to start from here.

Hal put the rig on the street and changed to a 351W in 1972, as he wanted MORE POWER! It only saw street use from 1972 to early 1974 when Ken Rice began an earnest.

Haha! Your a good man! :D The trans has nice bright red fluid. I pulled the trans and t-case Saturday to check for water and put in new seals. Plus, I also want low range back in.

The trans leaks badly. Its just getting some new gaskets and seals. Ken took low range out of the T-case. I am going to put it back in.

How were the low range gears disabled? You couldn't just remove the sliding gears because you wouldn't have anything to lock high range in.

well...they make low-low gear set's..im sure they make a high-high gear set's? that would be sweet lol might be wise to put a new tourqe converter in. thought my trans was burned up and everything when it was just the stock tourqe converter didnt get replaced when he got it got rebuilt.

I'd be curious to know how that was done too. It's been common over the years to gut low range out of racing transfer cases (Class 3, Class 4, etc.) - I'm just not sure how it's done.

I didn't look very close. To me it looked like he just removed the gears.

There's really nothing that you could just remove and still have it work in high range. I could see maybe putting a stop on the rails so they couldn't go in all the way.

1975. Time to build a "real" racer!

Kurt Strecker, owner of Viva Broncos in El Cajon poured a 6 pack into Hal one night and convinced him that for $3,500 he could make it into a REAL Baja racer. Ken Rice was a long time friend and decided he would get involved. Before it got started Kurt was moving to another new location for his Bronco business and not tying the body down, it blew off the truck and was demolished. That ended the association and Ken took over production in his garage. Hal made a deal with Ken that he would own and supply the Bronco and $, Ken would build, maintain and for which he and his brother Greg, would get to drive and race.
