Bad Duraspark module leaking goo

My Bronco sat for a long time before I bought it and the Duraspark module was bad and had leaked goo all out of it. I tried cleaning when I replaced it a couple of years ago but now that I’m starting to drive it more I know I need to clean it up. Any ideas of something that can help break this crap down so I can scrub it off?

I thought it was basic potting material, but once it’s heated up and melted, I don’t know if it changes properties.
Have you tried anything on it yet? Perhaps low and out of sight?
Maybe mineral spirits, carburetor cleaner, brake cleaner, or something similar? Or maybe just gasoline or kerosene?
Good luck. I don’t remember what others have used, or if we’ve even talked about it before.

No idea but just a suggestion. Take a flat blade screwdriver or putty knife and break off a piece of the goo to experiment with and not harm the paint under hood.

I would try:
paint thinner/mineral spirits
Goo gone
WD 40
Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
Gasoline last

Now now Mad. They don’t “all” fail. 😉😁
I’ve actually never had one do that and I’ve run them for decades. But I won’t argue that many of them do fail and die an ugly death.

I've tried goo gone, simple green, and tried scraping it but its very hardened I guess from sitting for so long.

My brother in law had a Jeep CJ that had a control module like that and it leaked out all over the place. Funny thing is it still worked! as for cleaning it off, a stiff edge scrapper was the best, we still have some on the shop floor where it leaked out. Brake cleaner wiped some of the residue off but it can also do a job on your paint. Good luck!
