Beard seats, Any one using them?

I have started to look at replacement seats... I have been checking the recent Thread about seats from donor vehicles. Pulled a seat out of my 88 Mustang to see how it fit... Well, as expected, it will require a custom install.
Beard seats seem to sold by a number of EB vendors, many options, warranty, and mounting rails that fit the factory holes. Anyone care to give me some feed back? Yeah, the cost could be an issue, but you cannot put a price on safety. And the mind can only absorb/enjoy what the Butt can stand sitting. (Or something like that) By the way I am 6' 3" and looking out the windshield becomes an issue if the seat is too high.

i'm going to buy PRP's for mine. i can get a pair for $400.00, and i'm just going to hard mount mine with no tracks. i'm 6' and my MR2 seats sit a little too high. now that i have a tilt column, it won't be a big deal getting in and out of them.

best seats out there hands down, and the safest. if people can sit in them for a 1000 miles in baja, they must be pretty good, i love mine. but they do suck if your going to use your back seat with a top on. ;D

I'm 5-11 on beards on tracks on a cor cage cradle, and I still can see, but barely. I mounted my seats as low as possible. Great seats.

I read in this month's bronco driver mag that someone is working on a new widow setup with wipers relocated to the bottom and the glass relocated up approximately 1.5 inches. Looks like a great idea.

I also run the Beard seats. Everyone that has rode in the bronco say they are the most comfortable seats they have ever sat in... sorry no pics. BTW I've had some pretty big guys in the seats and they have had no problems, but of course they weren't driving.

I have hi-back Beards on Beard mounts. I'm 6 ft. and I'm very happy with them. I have them mounted as low as they can go, which is slightly lower than stock seats according to my crude measurements. I've heard that the quality of Mastercraft seats is better, though I haven't verified it personally. Not sure if Mastercraft has Bronco-specific mounts available though.

I use/sell the beards. I was involved with the track/bracket design. The pass set will tilt but the hi-back will hit the windshield before it will give acc. to the rear. A fix is way down on my list of things to do. I was also involved with the design of the sportster HB seat. The idea is a bucket, to hold you in that is easy to get in and out of, like on trails and around town. Also low for the tall guys (I am 6'1") and hi back for head support, I use this set in my DD/crawler. The beard RX-1's are what I run in the racer, much harder to get out of but I don't get out much anyway. Phil is also using this seat now.

Got pics of seats installed? I'd like to move away from the stock passenger side mounting system.

I'm running them and it's some of the best money spent. You can pick your style and options (map pocket, lumbar etc) and colors to suit. I also like the availability of a matching rear seat (although I have to plans to purchase it).
They offer a lot of support. A word of caution for the larger butt-ed male members, they are a little tight, but....(butt) ;D they do offer a larger slightly wider version. It might not fit as well. They also offer a flatter version that is easier to get in and out of.

Only one drawback I have found thusfar, the passenger side. The tilt is nice and functions properly if the headrest is removed (mine come out) however; if you have the lapbelts laced through the side slots the seat wont tip forward as easily. I also have shoulder harnesses and they have to be moved to tip the seat. It's actually not a real big deal since I have a cross bar for my cage running directly behind the seats.

Same thing here. I've got Corbeau retractable belts and they don't slide worth a darn. I need to find plastic trim, or a shoe horn or something to free up the slots. Beard doesnt offer anything.

I used to have a pair of Beards in a J**p a few years ago. I recently put in a set of seats from racecraftseats.com. They are identical in construction, looks, and feel. They are much more attractive price wise.

They are based in Yuma Arizona and were awesome to work with. My family surprised me with the matching rear seat for Christmas.

Give the web site a try, then call. Gwen was great to work with.

Here's a picture:

Thanks Chuck and everyone else for your replies! I spent some time last night looking at BC Bronco's and Beard's web sites. I also looked at the old posts that came up. Seems like the main issues are height / vision issues, and rear seat access. Cost is something also... I have not made up my mind yet. I have an 8" Tuffy box that I do not want to change out. I will keep measuring and looking at all the options.

Anyone got a pic of a beard in place on the passenger side? Hows the rear access?

Here's a shot of how I have passenger side rear access on mine:

http://www.azbronco.org/tech04.htm

Scroll down and you'll see the pics. I did the Bronco II seat bracket mod before Beard offered their brackets.

I now have Mastercrafts on the same brackets.

Thanx Todd,

Been planning on using that Bronco II Seat bracket since the start of my build-up some 1 1/2 years ago. Even had one for awhile. I just didn't like the way it lined up with the other seat. I'll have to see the Beard bracket up close (or here if I can get a pic).
