Big Oly is the most beautiful off road race vehicle ever built. The construction and attention to detail was state of art then and just as amazing today. You have to see it in person to truly appreciate it.
Just in case you record the auctions and watch them later, you have something to look forward to in today's Mecum from Arizona. Never seen them do this before, but they actually introduced Big Oly in front of the crowd and drove it out from behind it's own tent and on to the runway while Dana Mecum waxed on about the history and emotions behind it. Presumably revving people up for the future sale.
Pretty cool. But I don't know their purpose behind this as I didn't even watch it all the way through before pausing it and heading back here to report.
This was about five and some change hours ago at least on TV. Be interesting to see what they do after this, but it was worth them interrupting the Thursday auction to me.

Thanks Andy. First time I've noticed them do it like that during one of the shows I watched.
Further along about mid-way through the 6 hour show, they showcased Big Oly and mentioned that during the Indy Auction, Parnelli will be there with 5 other vehicles of note. I wonder if he still has the '64(?) Indy race winner he drove?

I am thinking about getting group to road trip over the Mecum and watch it go through...
Its selling in Indy, correct?
Pictures are great, but seeing Big Oly in person is awesome. I had the opportunity to see it at Team Ford a few years back. Had a hard time leaving the place! I think it still had original dust still on it.

That was one of the cool things about that truck - Parnelli was very generous with sharing it with fans so many of us were fortunate to get to see it numerous times over the years and check it out. It was wasn't stuffed away in a collection never to be seen again. I was fortunate to take a short ride in it 20 years ago and drive it an even shorter distance 5 years later.

It has a Baja Bronco steering wheel and Bronco glovebox door on it - the two Bronco pieces on it.

I got to see it at FFF 2011.
I got a kick out of the "big boy" air cleaner placement. I suppose if it got fouled you could replace it on the fly.
