black diamond plating

recently i saw a bronco in a 4x4 mag with black diamond plating. do they make that stuff, if so anyone know where it is sold? or is it jut painted black?

I haven't seen them sold in black. It seem most guys paint or powder coat them. Here's a link with good info:

I started a thread a while back about it as well. A few trucks have either diamond plating that is black, or rockskis with sidetubes.
There is a yellow bronco in the Wildhorses catalog with the black diamond plating, and he painted his. The people I have talked to who have them have all painted them black manually. Good luck!

so what kind of paint would be the best to use? my tailgate is rusted out on the inner bottom, and rather than replace it and have to paint it, i though a quick fix would be to get a diamond plate cover. i like the idea of it being black so it can match my black interior. i just want a good paint job do it doesnt scratch off to easy.

BTW, the bronco i saw with it was in decemember 2004 issue of 4 wheel drive and sport utility magazine. its mostly jeep stuff, but they had an article on a sweet red bronco. its worth checking out if you find a copy.

Funny this should come up. My wife runs a floor covering business and one company just started making black diamond plate rubber flooring. The stuff is so new I don't even have a data sheet for it. FYI rubber flooring is darn near indestructible. I might be doing my interior with it. %)

You can usually get diamond tread in steel, stainless steel and aluminum. All of the stuff I've seen used in Broncos is aluminum (the door panels and such) which can be paintedorpowder coated but the best and highest cool factor is anodizing. Most of the colored aluminum you see is anodized but for only a piece or two, expect to pay a minimum (like $150 or so). Good luck.
