Ok, this one admitidly confuses me, since this just shouldnt happen.

I'm almost finished re-wiring the bronco after swaping in the EFI. The old, stock wiring was in bad shape and had been pretty badly canabalized by the PO. To the point that the whole truck would short out intermittantly.

So brand new wires under-dash now, and ran the start and run lead to the starter solenoid last night. This is a brand new solenoid that I know worked prior to last night, as I used it to turn the EFI over for the fist time (did that before taking the wiring apart.) No workie.

I get +12v to run when key is in run, +12v to start when key is in start (and +12v to run as well) and +12 to the battery terminal. 0v to starter terminal. This is just a busted solenoid, right? Can't figure out how it posibly broke though...

solenoid does not get a run wire..start only to the "s" terminal

I think he means the brown resistor bypass wire to the "I" terminal.

I do mean the "I" terminal. This is what i was concerned with, I eliminated the brown resistor bypass wire and ran a wire straight from the key switch to the "I" terminal. Is this not correct? Does there need to be resistance in the path for the solenoid to operate?

Didn't check the grounding, but since it hasn't been tampered with since it worked, I would assume the ground is OK

It won't hurt anything but it isn't doing anything to help either. The brown wire picked up battery voltage when cranking from the "I" terminal and sent it directly to the coil. This boosted the coil voltage because it bypassed the resistor path from the ignition switch. Your new wire isn't doing anything really.

Sounds like it must be the solenoid then. When I connected the wires to the terminals, they fell part way inside the housing of the solenoid (Cheap piece of @$#*) something must have come loose inside. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't wiring it wrong (if not "right").

Guess your signature is true "I can break anything" I can relate. Hope you get it fixed.
