Blocking 5.0 Ports

I need to block of the emmision ports before installing the engine. On the back of each head I installed a 1" log bolt.

I have not tried to block the one at the top of the block.

Is it okay blocking them off with a bolt? I want to make sure I am not blocking an exhaust or coolant passage.

Let me guess, you got that engine out of a van?

When you unscrew it I believe that the hole is blind. That is it goes nowhere. Just a threaded boss.

Is that for the sensor on top of the block?

The ports that I blocked in the heads were tied into the exhaust.

They make an insert as well Travis F4ZZ-6E086-A list for $20.83 each, same as on the front of the head to mount the accessorie drive brackets.....i had bolts in my old heads with sealer on them....never had a problem

If the blind-hole threaded inserts are not in them, the thread in the casting is 9/16 coarse, I believe, and I use bolts to seal them up.

I will give the bolts a shot.

What about the sensor on top? I guess I could leave it but it would annoy me. I have not tried to remove it incase it's a press fit or somethig odd.
