Body Mount Torque Tightening Number?

Just put new body mounts on my 76. Is there a recommended torque value for these? I've heard lots of stories of overtightening and pulling the bolt through the mount:eek::eek: For now, I tightened them at 20 foot lbs.

I've always tightened mine until the rubber bushing starts to squish out to the size of the washer. Now if you've got the new urethane ones those might require a torque spec.
Did the new ones come with new hardware and nylock nuts? If so your probably in the right area at 20flbs

Tighten them down til the sleeves bottom out

the bolts will only tighten so far. there is a metal sleeve inside that when the bolt is tight the bolt head and nut have closed on the sleeve. this still lets the body be isolated from the frame vibrations because the bushing goes through a big hole and the bolt never tightens on the frame just the sleeve. so crank the snot out of it if you wish, it will not get too tight or split the bushings

Did anyone ever figure out a good torque spec. for the body mounts? I started running them down at 25 ft/lbs and it slightly deformed my rear floor mounts so obviously I stopped. I never got the wrench to even click over so its at 15 ft/lbs or something less than 25 ft/lbs. The fronts were fine at 25 ft/lbs

Jopsu, Ballpark time it took to change your mounts? Any challenges? My mounts look like originals from 1973 and I'm considering changing them. Thanks

Update, I contacted the floor builder and they didn't really know what was going on. The dynacorn floor definitely doesn't have a spacer/bushing between the upper floor platform and the floor support so it crushed. Im still waiting to hear something back about this and will update once I do. Im also considering starting a separate thread for the floor.

I changed my mounts a couple of weeks ago and it was easy, but a pain. Split between Saturday and Sunday, I spent about 5 hours or so which included breaks for cold ones. Have plenty of sawzall blades handy. Good luck

The bushing or I should say the sleeve that prevents over tightening comes with your body mount kit.
It's a steel sleeve.

So after extensive discussion with dynacorn they told me the same thing that this was part of the mounting kit. My truck has a brand new body mount bushing kit from Toms. So I called them up and the bushing kit doesn’t supply the bushing (steel sleeve) which is meant to be installed inside the welded floor from the during assembly. The front mounting location does have steel sleeves inside however the rear doesn’t. Toms was very helpful with this. Unfortunately, I order the floor from another supplier who told me to just not tighten it down and I will be good to go. Has anyone run a floor without the steel sleeve and could you post a link to the mount kit which has it included?

I think Steve was referring to the inner sleeve that prevents the bushing from compressing too much, not the actual one that is between the floor and crossmember. My spacer for the front was mounted to the floor support and the indented part of the floor sat on top of it during installation

thats right^^ there is no sleeve inside the body cavity but the rubber/urethane body bushing should have a washer on top of it (between the body and the mount) This lets the washer distribute the load across the whole area and where the floor sopport bends down to the floor is stronger so the washer really rides on that area of support.

I put an impact on mine and and let get as tight as it could and had no bending of a weak floor or extreme bulging of the bushings

hope that helps

Crush, You impacted the body mounts at the upper floor platform location and you bought a Dynacorn floor which doesn't have the spacer inside of the floor support? I checked the original floor and it does have a u shaped spacer/bushing in between the support and the floor platform.

Nope. No dynacorn. But my sheet metal is very weak. It didnt crush or wrinkle because the big washer spread out the load evenly
