I bought my Bronco as a basket case , It has a manual trans with a NP435 can anyone tell me what size and grade of bolts I need to mount ut to the bell housing and to connect the transfer case? Thanks
Go get yourself a bolt gauge from a bolt supplier in your area-- having a gauge is a HUGE help in learning the sizes-- it wont take long I assure you I believe they are all 7/16" about 2 1/2" long approx-- everything is a coarse thread- use grade 8 whenever possible
The world has gone "grade 8 crazy." If people realized that grade 8 isn't a better quality bolt, then this wouldn't keep happening. A Grade 8 bolt wasn't used there from the factory. The downside of using a grade 8 bolt is it's harder to remove if broken. And it can break easier depending on the application. Grade 5 is correct.

X2 grade 5 works just fine. grade 8 tends to snap off where a grade 5 or lower will bend or twist off. wont hurt to use grade 8 on the bellhousing but I wouldnt use it on exhuast systems. There are some areas its not the best idea to use the grade 8's even though they are techincally stronger than 5's there are all kinds of factors involved which are not always clearly defined.
Might also want to consider that not all grade 8 bolts(or any other grade for that matter) are truely grade 8 you may want to ensure that any bolts you get are good quality and not made in china specails where quality tends to suffer.
