I am having an overheating problem and I am trying to eliminate all possiblilities. One of them is the lower radiator hose. On this site, I have read that the hose must have a spring inside, i have looked everywhere except ford and cannot find a molded one with a spring. Is it really needed?

The spring is not needed. You woill be hard pressed to find one. In theory, they would prevent the hose from collapsing when the engine overheated and you lost all of your coolant.
If you are over heating, do you have a radiator shroud? Have you checked your thermostat lately? Had the radiator checked in the past few years for corrosion? Changed your anti-freeze? Checked and tuned the engine? (i.e. timing and carb.) There are alot of things that can cause overheating. Good luck.
