broken axle question?

i was out mud riding in my bronco this weekend in a place where big truck useually go,truck wiyh 52 inch tires. had no problem with the mud with 35s.i have had no idea the bronco was so bad,but got in some ruts tring to turn around and i heard something pop and was suck instantly.this was half way through yhe trail luckly made it out in 2 wheel drive.it took every thing it had.now the real question i have 2 spare front ends would it be worth the trouble using the axle from one of them or get a new one,and how hard is it i have never done it before?

Did you actually break the axel or just the U-joint? If your are going out wheeling with 35's I would think getting some good axels and running the larger spicer u-joints would be a good idea.

As for pulling the axel it's not that difficult. You will need a spindle nut socket(you can buy them at most auto stores)., If your front end has never been taken apart the spindle might be a pia to take off. Other then that I would check and repack you bearings and such.
