Thats my thoughts, no money, no goods. Its that simple. Sounds to me like she is trying every angle to get the Bronco without paying. I would just rufund what she has paid so far and tell her its not for sale.

I did recieve the final payment today, now let's see if it clears.
tmacstickman, what form was the payment? Fake cashiers checks are a big problem now. They look real enough to your bank and they'll even tell you that they cleared. But then 2 weeks later your bank calls telling you that it was actually a fake and they're deducting the money out of your account. Obviously you're totally screwed if that happens.

And if the amount of the check is more than the purchase price (like has extra funds for you to pay the transport company) then it's almost certainly a scam.

Better hold off on giving that refund!

dear mr tmacstickman
i do some sales on ebay. from my experience. relist it and post a neg feedback on the buyer. mention failure to pay. document all communication. a buyer has all the advantage from ebay. i have never gotten the support from ebay when the buyer is unhappy with the product. it doesnt have to be a bad product...buyers remorse works with ebay.
i bought my eb on ebay. when i got there to pick it up (with cash and wire transfer)...it was not as described... we negotiated a price at that point because the seller really wanted to be good about it (kinda). Im happy with my eb...but cash and wire transfer is the only way to go. ebay sent me a survey about this transaction. i was very negative in the system set up and told them that they should have people on the payroll to mediate such problems on a case by case situation. no reply!
this probably comes to you too late but i also wanted the rest of you guys to know this information.

>>>> unfortunately you can't do that anymore..... I forget exactly when, but seems like it was maybe a couple of years ago they changed the feedback rating system..... sellers can only leave positive feedback now, which is a bunch of BS..... some people I know that sell alot of ebay are seriously pissed off at the new system....................

Fake bank checks are all the rage these days. They may 'clear' your bank in two or three days they are not actually 'cleared' through the system, this can take weeks as Jon said!

From a Law Enforcement perspective I'd NEVER take ANY bank, cashiers, certified check these days for anything substantial.

I have recieved the deposit and the final payment, both cashiers checks. As of yesterday the checks have not been cleared.

But, the buyer has definitely softened her position on this and has asked me to contact her when the checks clear so she can arrange pick up.

Honestly I am still very leary of this and wish I had done payment a little differently like some have suggested. I try to look at things from different perspectives to understand a little more, but for the life of me I dont know who she thought she was or where she was coming from.

Thanks for the support on this and hopefully it ends well, aside from my Bronco going to a bad family.

I think you should let your bank know of this problem so that they can make damn sure those checks are good before you call her back.

Most definitely.

Ask them what are the repercussions if the checks turn out to be phoney two weeks later, as in who gets stuck with the loss.

Please do let us know what you find out.

Although it does sound like a strange deal it's possible that she's not really that bad. She could be just as nervous as you are about the deal, but just from the other side. Buying a vehicle long distance, sight unseen is very nerve racking.

She doesn't know you any more than you know her and she's sending you lots of money before she gets the Bronco. In her mind you could skip out after payment and never be seen again. And if she doesn't know anything about the fake cashiers check scams she may very well think it's the most secure way of paying and doesn't understand your reluctance to trust it.

Or she could just be a crazy, demanding buyer! ;D Who knows.

Hope it turns out well.

Thanks Jon. I always look to be reasonable because you cant always understand the other side's situation either.

However, just since my last posting I got a call from the transport company and they have already scheduled pick up for next Wednesday! This is different from just 2 days ago, when the buyer e-mailed me and it sounded like she changed her tune and asked me if I would call the transport company and arrange for the pick up ONCE the checks have cleared and she is willing to work around my schedule.

Is this just an attempt from the shipper to coordinate along with other orders?

Also, the bank manger is calling the bank where the cashiers check was drawn against and verify the funds and trasaction.

bottom line is you listed your terms. I have had the good fortune of meeting you and know your character, you don't know theirs....You didn't buy a truck over the internet 10 hours away, they did. Stick to your guns and don't budge.....good luck

I really appreciated Jon's position on this, because I too was thinking about things from the buyer's perspective. I didn't know about the cashier's check scams until I read this thread, and like your buyer, I wouldn't want to set myself up to get burned, either.

That being said, 10 hours away? She should take a day to drive over and take care of this. I know you expressed concern about the Bronco making the trip, but that's up to the buyer. She could bring a trailer or even a friend just to follow her back... either way, it's part of the adventure!

Best of luck to BOTH parties...!

You, YOU need to call and make it very clear that the bronco is not going to be released for shipping until all clearance from the bank and that you can understand her wanting to get it as soon as possible but you as a seller need to cover yourself also, and that you will keep her posted as the bank posts you. Do this without giving her the Idea that you think this is a shady deal, rather that you are wanting to work toward making this as comfortable as it can be for the both of you involved. Let her know that you don,t know her and she doesn't know you and that your the seller and she is going to have to extend some trust in you for this to work. At the same time they are your transaction rules that apply since you had it stated in your description, and that you,ll let her know when she can start the shipping process. It might even be necessary to let her know of all the scams out there on this subject and that your trying to be as careful as possible and that her actions trying to have it shipped without any bank clearance is making you skeptical about the whole deal. YOU AND HER need to have an understanding conversation. Jon, is right she might be feeling the same way but she is also being to pushy and it might need to be brought to Ebays' attention just in case it does go south.
