Bronco Transport Headache - make sure to read ALL of the uship reviews

So, I scheduled transport for a newly purchased Bronco on uship.com. I accepted a bid from a company with a good track history. Pick-up date was set for yesterday (Friday). Communication was very poor...the seller wasn't contacted until this morning when the service provider phoned him saying that the driver had been hit by a drunk driver while loading another vehicle...SAD, I know.

Well, I thought something was a bit fishy. I had been getting the run-around for a few days and there was nothing in the news about a drunk hitting a pedestrian (a pretty news worthy event). I contacted the service provider (he didn't call me) and expressed sympathy for the unfortunate accident. He said he wouldn't be able to figure his schedule out until Monday. After talking it over with my wife, we decided to ask for a guaranteed delivery date of next Friday with an option for the driver to cancel if he could not meet that date. I left a message on his phone and called his business partner with the same proposition. She had NOT heard anything about their driver being hit by a drunk driver! When he called me back, he was really upset...yelling into the phone upset. He wouldn't calm down, so we both decided that it'd be best to cancel the shipment.

Afterwards, I started reading the company's cancellation reviews on the uship site. It turns out that one of their employees was hit by a drunk driver in November as well...now that is some SERIOUS bad luck. %)

This guy had been stringing me along the whole time. The point is that if you think you're being lied to, you probably are. Make sure to read all of the shipper's reviews and also keep an eye out for patterns.

Thanks for letting me vent a little.

It's really frustrating dealing with something you can't control!! I had my truck shipped from CA. to MA. back in 2007 and I know how it feels. Like you said, if something seems off in your gut, it probably is! Good luck with this and if you need a shipper still I'm happy to pass along who I used. They were reasonable and did what they said and when they said it.

Best of Luck!

I, too know how you feel....I bought my EB just about a year ago on ebay from a small-time dealer in Oregon. Used a shipping company based in Cincinatti, partly 'cause I'm in NE Ohio, so I figured the same state should work well. I was given a 7-10 day arrival window, if I recall. However, nothing was happening. The shipper said they were having trouble getting a subcontracter to haul my EB, I asked about their own drivers, same response.

So, after taking my $800+ downpayment, I was told I would get it when they could find someone to haul it! Luckily, the dealer had the place to keep my EB and didn't charge any storage fees or anything. Finally after almost a month after buying it, I got it. The driver was a good guy....couldn't really blame him. The shipper on the other hand......I don't see them listed any more in the ebay ads when I'm looking. Out of business??? Not sure, but wouldn't be surprised with their attitude....seems like alot of businesses today- once they have your money, you don't exist.

Cal D.A.S. autoshippers, they are probably more expensive but they do what they are paid to do and you can track the wherabouts of your vehicle on line.

Shipping is a crap shoot. I purchased 1970 Chevelle SS 396 from Virginia. I live in Oregon. The owner lived out in the boonies of Virginia. I wanted the car shipped in enclosed carrier. I had several carriers call and cancel at the last minute because they did not want to drive out to the boonies to pick up the car. It took six weeks to get the car shipped and I finally settled for an open carrier.

I also purchased a 1970 SS396 El Camino from Texas and scheduled a closed carrier. When it arrived the closed carrier was a canvas shell which trapped all the dust and road dirt. The car was absolutely covered in dirt and it had made it's way through the ventilation system filling the car with dirt. It was a fricken mess.

Crapshoot is an accurate term!
Any 800 agent number you call is posted for any driver to accept!
All the drivers see all the agent postings. These drivers do not work for one company, they are all independent.
I've either shipped or had shipped to me 8 Bronco's. Know the routine pretty well. It usually sucks.. %)

Try to find a carrier who transports cars to Barrett-Jackson or get one from the Hemmings book and always check references. Might cost more but worth not having headaches.
