So, I’ve owned several EB’s over the past 25 years. From uncut to full on crawler doing all of my own work. Engine, suspension, interior, body and paint.
I purchased a ‘77 a few years ago, right before the market took off. It’s pretty clean and very reliable. I drove it 500 miles home and easily a daily driver. EVERYTHING works. It was used on a farm in Idaho it’s whole life. I bought it 100 miles from where it was originally sold with the dealer sticker still on the tailgate. The rear fenders were cut from the dealer like most Broncos sold in the area which is the only mod besides a stereo. In 2000 the PO hit a deer and had the grill, hood, drivers fender and inner fender replaced with donor factory parts. Those parts were repainted and it appears the whole bronco may have been clear coated at that time. Not sure if Ford used clear coat in ‘77?? All glass is original except new windshield that I installed. New jasper long block in 2001. A simple bolt together roll cage was also Installed at this time. C4 must have been rebuilt at some point. Shifts super smooth and fluid smells great. No leaks.
The cracked dash pad really annoyed me, so I bit the bullet. I gutted the interior which was restored in ‘98 with James Duff covers matching original including door panels and rear quarters. All Still in good shape, no rips. The original vinyl floor, which I don’t believe has been reproduced, is in remarkable condition. It was pretty stressful carefully removing the vinyl. Upon inspection, the floor pans are a 8 out of 10. Probably not worth replacing entire pieces and structurally sound. Obviously I had to remove the roll cage, wiper cover and unbolt the hardtop to replace the dash pad. What a PITA, but worth it. I cleaned everything up and put it back the way it was.
The body is very solid. Tiny rust hole in the bottom of the tailgate and surface rust on the drivers rocker that I “touched up”. Seams are just starting to stain. I replaced factory suspension with Wild Horses 2.5” complete kit. I’m he PO converted the inverted y with traditional. I rebuilt the 44. Bearings, seals, brakes, warn hubs etc. I Had PSC rebuild the PS box and put a new set of 33” Toyo’s on US mags. Man it drives great.
I think it looks great but always wanted a uncut ‘77. I’m not getting any younger and my health is declining, so it’s now or never. My question is, am I making a mistake thinking it would be more valuable restored, or should I leave it with its history exposed? Right now, the whole family enjoys driving it. Kids drive it to school on nice days. Wife drives it to work and we all jump in it for sporting events, visit friends etc. No plans to sell, but I’m also a believer that everything is for sale :) I know the cost of everything and would probably sink $25k into the make over.
What would you do? What is the value as it sits vs restore? Here’s a few pics as well as some of my earlier projects.

Cool story and thanks for the pics, but I don't understand the poll. I know you are asking drive it or restore it but it ssks that in the poll too.

Drive it as is. Love it in that condition. No guesses here on value, partly because I could see bidding on it someday ;D

I think use the rougher ones for restorations.

Looks to me like your pole is two different questions: one is about value (the first 2 choices) and two is about as is versus restoring (the last 2 choices)??

I say drive as is, but redo your poll??

That's a beauty! Clean up any low hanging fruit and drive it now and then but NOT daily.

Restore it a little at a time "while" you drive it enjoy it? Too much you want to do for that to happen? :)

Rob , Leave that thing like it is. Looks nice. You know my thoughts on original as possible. Simply dress up the concern spots and then just bite the bullet and go buy another one with uncut fenders and work on that one. When you get that uncut. Call me up and I will be glad to come help and learn a thing or two from ya. Plus you have the boy that can help also now that he is old enough. No better father son bonding oppurtunity than that. Grab that 66 in Portland I told you about. It is at about 12K right now. That one looks like a perfect fit. Just my two cents. TTYL ....

The easiest way to go is weld in new rear quarters to get what you want and repaint as necessary. With health starting to be a problem why do you want to wait?

as the market goes toward "over building" these simple utilitarian vehicles, keep as is. I dont see the value it putting 25K into to raise the value 25K. Like another member said, the ones that are not in great shape are the ones to modify heavily. that is a great survivor with cool history.

You have a lot of nice "original value" in that one. I always lean towards keeping them as original as possible. As others have said, rebuild the really bad ones.

Right now it's worth a solid 22-25K depending on who comes forward with the money. The right eBay day might bring more.

Run a marti and see if it's a special decor sans stripe? I think it would look good with a special decor stripe.

I have no idea what health related stuff you have going on or what your long term goal is...like if you pass what could the wife sell it for?

If you are bent on a '77 uncut, why not see if someone would trade you?

I feel like once they are cut, the cherry is popped; have at it. Throw some black bronco carpet in it, some high backs with a fold n tumble, audio it up, headliner it with sound deadening throughout and enjoy the heck out of it.

I have had a few real nice original Broncos and I must say... uncut rear wheel wells are overrated.

I think it’s great as is. Drive and enjoy. If you just gotta restore something, sell this one to someone that appreciates it for what it is and then go get a basket case to restore.

Yea. The “poll” idea is a bit odd and I wasn’t exactly sure how to use it, but working in a sense. I looked a long time for a ‘77 project and was very happy when I found this one. I’m just trying to get an idea of what to do with it and agree with most to just drive it.
