When refilling the tranny after draining the torque convertor are there any special steps to take? Put in 4-5 quarts start it and put it in neutral and keep filling? Anyone? thank-you
If you drained the torque converter and the pan, you could refill it with as many as 8 1/2 quarts depending on how long it was alowed to drain. Let's say you remove the pan and drain plug on the TC and have the vehicle parked on an incline with the nose lower than the rear, then you go and have lunch while it's draining. Then it will hold about 8. If you removed the valve body, it will probably hold another pint.
With the vehicle on jack stands, put 4 qts. in then have 2 more qts. open and ready to pour with the funnel in place before you start it. After it's running dump the other 2 qts and run it through all the gears with the rear wheels off the ground, use the brakes to stop the wheels before changing directions or shifting it to park. Check the stick with vehicle level while idling in neutral or park. Add as necessary and repeat process.
