Is there a mod that offers a better seal between the dipstick tube and the transmission pan? I saw a post talking about an O-ring, but I don't see one. Maybe that's the problem? ?:?

I'm pretty sure the normal C4 in the Broncos have the screw in / flared end as mentioned - no oring or rubber seal. The rolled flare is what seals off the fluid when it is compressed by tightening the threaded fitting. The threaded hole in the transmission case has a flat bottom (shelf) which serves as a positive stop for the flared tube to seal against.

If you have a leak, the flare could have a problem - maybe cracked or damaged. I would check the flare first and see how it looks. Unfortunately, you can't use a rubber seal because it will just squeeze and deform inward toward the axis of the hole and possibly tear and end up in the pan and that would be bad. If the flare is bad, you might try to get someone to repair it.

Good luck.

I tighten the poop out of mine to get it to stop leaking. Huge 1 1/8 wrench I think.

The case-fill C4s use an o-ring. For the pan-fill you just need to put about 50 ft-lbs on it.

After I got sick of the little drip & tightening it & over tightening it w/ no luck, I took it off and cleaned it very well w/ carb cleaner.

Put some [pipe dope] thread sealer on the threads and put it back together...hasn't leaked since.
