As I am always trying to make things harder for myself and constantly delay my bronco getting back on the trail I was pondering the following.
Has anyone ever completed a cable clutch conversion? I was originally thinking this would be the way to go (for ease and reliability) and was trying to copy the setup off the fox body mustangs.
I have also been reading about the classic mustang T5 swaps that are converting to a cable clutch setup. I have seen both schools of thought; using a clutch quadrant or mounting the clutch cable for a straight pull off the pedal.
The problem that I am having with a quadrant setup is headroom under the cowl to clear a quadrant effectively. The fox body pedal box also has two different pivot points (one brake and one clutch). I would then have to create a different pivot point for the stock bronco clutch pedal to attach a quadrant to the side (like the mustang) to clear the available headroom under the dash. I have seen quadrant conversions that use a pivot over the top of the pedal (instead of to the side) which would work in theory on the bronco and its single pivot pedal box. But because of lack of overhead clearance under the dash I don't believe that will work easily and I am leaning towards a straight pull cable.
The mustang clutch fork also pivots from the passenger side so the cable pulls from the front. The Mcleod scatter shield for the tranny I am running uses a GM style drivers side ball mount (read: cable would have to pull from the rear). So straight pull or quadrant I would have to position the cable to pull from the rear of the vehicle to disengage the clutch.
If I go this route I am thinking just using a straight pull (off the pedal). Do you think that pedal pressure would be too extreme with out the mechanical advantage of a quadrant.
Thoughts? I have no problem completely fabing a new pedal box to fit my application (skills wise) I am just not sure it is worth the spent time. Am I just pissing in the wind and trying to recreate the wheel? Should I just go hydro?

I also attached photos of a mustang pedal box (I believe the quadrant route would end up being more trouble than its worth)
