Hi guys:

The bottom seal on my lift gate---the heavy hard plastic thingie that stretches across the bottom of the lift gate and fits in between the lift gate and tail gate--is coming loose and falling off.

What's the best way to fix this? I have some 3M super weatherstrip and gasket adhesive--do I use that to reapply it?

Any tricks to that? Should I use clips of some sort to keep it attached as the adhesive hardens?

Should I buy another seal from TBP? Although the one I have now looks good, it is probably old.

Many thanks for your wisdom!

I would probably buy a new one, they aren't too expensive. Mine was separating, not sure if that is what is happening to yours, and didn't look like it could be fixed.

Yes, I think I have a case of separation. The flap part--that makes a seal between the left and tail gates-- is tearing off (has torn off) from the screwed in part.

Is this all one piece? Is hard plastic seal screwed in at the bottom of the lift gate part of the flap? Or is the flap somehow glued on next to it?

Thanks your your help.

Bonus question: Does the best replacement seal come from TBP?

All the vendors sell the seal and they all fall apart after a couple years.
Only about $20 bucks though....

Me too, but it's still on there and in decent shape. Not too big a deal when you consider I took the top off;D, but it still spent several years in use.
The rubber "lip" part that sticks out the back and over the tailgate does tend to split, but mine still gave decent service, and I sometimes filled the gap with black silicone seal to good effect.

Maybe the gap between the tailgate and liftgate is the deciding factor here? Mine was always pretty decent, without being too far apart. Never felt like it was really pushing the seal hard when closing.
What about yours?

It's a good question. The truth is, I don't know. The gap looks normal. I'm just going to buy a new seal, install it, and take it from there.

Thanks to everyone for the great replies! Mucho appreciated.
