I remember reading sometime folks need to remove the upper zerk fitting on the upper ball joint so the ujoint on the axle shaft can turn. But do i need to do that using a stock size moser axle and in a 78-79 Bronco disk brake knuckle, it appears there is more space?

no room and besides when you break an axle it wipes the zerk out .you want to use the moog balljoints the zerk is on the top side.

The fittings that came with my Moog joints (a long time ago now) had both a standard 90° fitting and a plug. You would use the fitting to grease it, then replace it with the plug for normal use. Whenever you wanted to grease it, you just swapped them again.
Not a little bit awkward, but you could still do it without dismantling things.

The outside fitting sounds like a dream come true.
