Center consoles?

It looks like every console on the market is 8" wide, but after measuring the space in my bronco the factory seat belt anchors are only 6.5" apart. What am I missing? Do you have to mod a notch on each side of the console? Also, they all seam to be about 27" long and it's only 24" from the tunnel to the bed.

If you are talking about a Tuffy console, they are installed over the seatbealt mount bolts. A spacer is required to raise the unit high enough to clear those bolts and the seatbelts route up between the seat and console. You can pick up the spacers as a kit, I just cut 3 1 inch sections of 1" square tube and drilled holes big enough for my mount bolts.

I put one of the vendor brand consoles. I went total shadetree and spaced it up with a 2x6,hell it won't rust. Bolted the wood to the floor then it was east to align and fasten with wood screws.
Then I found that with the cupholder as far forward as it could be the arm rest was too far back. Back to the drawing board... I cut the cupholder off and relocated it higher on the console. I was able to move it far enough to use the armrest and made the cupholder easier to reach.

I notched my console a bit and bolted the seat belts from the inside of the console. I think it saves some space but as a result i think that the metal console transfers more heat from the tunnel since its mounted on it in all four corners. The spacer might not only be an easier install but also serve to let a bit of airspace between the hump and the box.

I am using a 10" tuffy with no issues. It works with my current s10 seats and with the old stock seats
