Charcoal canister replacement source

Anyone have a good source for replacement of the Fuel tank vent line charcoal canister? I purchased a 1976 EB in december and all the vent lines were routed as overflow hoses. I have rerouted all of the lines up to the stock front passenger fender location, but need a source for the evap / charcoal canister.

Checked Toms / JBG / Advance auto, etc but no go. Will check NAPA in the AM, but could not find one on the website. Could be I just don't know what to look for....

Any ideas?

I have some used original ones if that will work for you. If so, send me a PM.

87-93 5.0 mustangs, 5.0 T-birds and Cougars from that era as well

I am sure it was used across many Fords during that time

Can you "refill" an original with new charcoal?

I have one, but it doesn't seem to stop the gas smell in the garage after a drive.

They dont do much good unless you have all the hoses connected properly. They will just fill up with fuel and make a nice bomb. I removed mine years ago only to find that was a mistake... I hooked it back up correctly and it works very well.

Yep, The one on the 76 I recently bought had a hose from the tank, but not really connected. I thought it was no big deal, low priority repair, but when I filled the main tank completely up the other day, I had a gas spout running out of the hose. Also have a garage full of fumes. I am also dealing with some possible vapor lock type issues, so I need to eliminate as many obstacles to resolving that as possible.

Thanks to everyone on the feedback. Looks like I have some options. How do you know a used one is functional?

Yep Junk Yard. Paid $10 for mine. Hooking it up soon.

I would just check for cracks in the housing. Look in the engine bay or on the frame rail of most Ford/Chevy trucks. Mine cleaned up real nice after taking this pic

These should help. The aux tank vent and the main tank vent 'T' into a line that runs up to the Canister on the passenger side firewall under the hood.

I am now running EFI so I also installed the canister purge solenoid. This is a more efficient way to get rid of the fumes.

It shouldnt be too hard to hook it up to a non EFI engine. I cant read the drawings that were posted... my eyes are getting bad I guess.

Basically all you need to do is connect one side of the canisters 1/4" fittings to a hose that connects to the fuel tank vents. The 1/4" fitting on the opposite side of the canister connect to intake vacuum or vacuum on the air breather... I can remember exactly where it should connect. I believe Viperwolf1 or someone on here has the correct routing info. I have saw it posted before.

Where I went wrong was I only connected the coanister to the vent lines on the tank. I didnt connect to vacuum so the fumes or fuel expansion or whatever caused the fuel to accumulate in the canister never got "pulled out" so the canister just filled up with fuel and overflowed. Once hooked up properly it has not been an issue.

So did the 77 come with the evaporator tank in the wheel well and will I need to run one before the vapor canister?
