Cigar lighter outlet to charge phone

I used the cigar lighter wire to supply power to another accessory.
I want to run a new wire to the cigar lighter from a constant power block I hooked up under the dash. What amp fuse should I install if I use the the cigar outlet to power and charge my cell phone?
Thanks .

Depends...
What gauge wire will you be running?
What will it be taping into (how much extra can that support)?
What is the limit of the cigar socket itself?
I have seen late model cars with the 12V power outlets fused with several 10A, mostly 15A, and a few have 20A fuses.
I think the extras I put in I fused at 15A with dedicated properly sized wire to a separate fuse block.

The cigar lighter was originally fused at 15 amps with the dome light.
Not sure what a typical cell phone draws for amps during the charging process.
I think the size of fuse used dictates what size wire to use.

I'd say on our Broncos about a 20 amp would be what I'd use. But If a cell phone is all that will ever be on it then a 10 would be more than enough.
Now I'd put a big wire to it so I could run anything I put on it. I run lots of big lights an fan motors & spray rig equipment. So I'd want a 30 on mine.

In mine, I hardwired a 12V-to-USB adapter inside the dash, and ran the phone & GPS cables out. The adapter is wired to a switch so I can select OFF, key-switched power, or constant (battery) power.

Yeah, my truck is a little different, but this wiring can be the same. ;)

I forgot I had this diagram:

The max that the sockets are rated for 15A, so that should be your upper limit. As others have said, scale it down based on the wire size and the length of the wire run (including the ground path).
