Hi Everyone,

I have read some prior threads on the insurance topic and am still looking to dive in deeper.

Some issues which keep coming up:

1. Less restrictive uses and higher mileage options. It seems ridicules that a "Sunday Drive" could mean, leave your garage and return directly back with no stops, for example, dinner. It seems ridicules that you cannot take your classic on a weekend trip upstate or to the beach. I would like to be able to do long rides with friends which could rack up miles.
2. Almost all non-classic car policies that I have researched, which do not have the use or mileage restrictions, will not allow a stated or appraised value. They are unable to cite (even after conversations with underwriters) how they will determine value in any loss scenario. The most I got was out of AllState, who stated they go by KBB. KBB does not cover into the 70's. So, if someone side swipes me, there is a few thousand dollar bill, are they going to propose totaling because damage is higher than their unexplainable value?
3. Most classic policies require another vehicle with primary insurance; which ignores access (versus ownership) to other vehicles or living in city/urban environments.

Any guidance would be great as I explore insurance.

My State Farm policy covers for my appraised (agreed) value and no mileage limits, although I did state my expected mileage at 1500 (still haven't done 1/4 that though).

Allstate doesn’t offer “stated value” insurance so they handed me off to Hagerty.

I have Hagerty on mine. I dont remember any milage restrictions. But they dont want you to use it as your primary car. Drive it to shows or events. Occasional drive too work or Sunday drives are ok from what I have been told. They just dont want you driving it daily to and from work on the highway. They also want to hear it is garaged or kept in a secure area. They will do agreed value. But I have never had a claim, fingers crossed I never need to!

With an appraisal, that would be the agreed value...at least that's how it went with State Farm. They did have to review the appraisal and agree to it but it was pretty quick once I gave them that. Before the appraisal, the value they would agree to was significantly less.

With Hagerty...I got a quote from them and it seemed like they were just gonna value it as what I said, but maybe they'd ask for documentation after I agreed to the policy, not sure.

I just went down this rabbit hole and then went with American Collectors. I can PM you the guy I worked with if you would like. I got agreed value and don't have any ridiculous restrictions like some of the others like not being able to stop at the store.

I have Country Financial. They asked what it was worth, I told them. They asked for several pictures, including one interior and one engine. A month or so after insuring, the hood opened up going down the road and hit the rollbar over my head. The adjuster came out, said he couldn’t do an adjustment on something like that, and recommended I take it to a body shop that does restorations. He figured the cost less than my stated value and they paid without any more questions. Later, I had it appraised and raised the value accordingly. Very happy with them.

As was stated above, you'll need to find an Agreed Value policy. Otherwise you'll be stuck with whatever they say its worth. READ the policy.

I use and recommend Classic Auto Insurance out of Indianapolis, IN.
